Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a state of health of a battery are disclosed. The apparatus comprises means for sensing a voltage of the battery, means for sensing a current through the battery, means for estimating a value of an equivalent circuit model parameter of the battery from the sensed voltage and current, wherein the equivalent circuit model parameter is based at least in part on an internal capacitance of the battery, means for storing a predetermined relationship between the equivalent circuit model parameter and the battery state of health, and means for calculating a state of health of the battery based on the estimated value of the equivalent circuit model parameter using the predetermined relationship.

Abstract: A system for charging a battery is provided, in which the system includes a plurality of sensors coupled with the battery, at least one battery charger coupled with the battery, and a processing unit coupled with the sensors and the battery charger. The processing unit includes a battery degradation modeling module and an aging-aware battery charging strategy module. The processing unit receives sensor information from the sensors, uses the battery degradation modeling module to detect aging phenomena or mechanisms that cause aging effect of the battery with a degradation model of the battery based on the sensor information, uses the aging-aware battery charging strategy module to calculate a charging profile for the battery based on the aging effect of the battery and the sensor information, and controls the battery charger to charge the battery based on the charging profile.

Abstract: A system is provided for performing a power estimation process for an electric vehicle using a controller. The controller estimates an inner state of an energy storage supply of the electric vehicle. The inner state represents a state-of-charge (SOC) and/or a state-of-health (SOH) of the energy storage supply. The controller also estimates an SOC value and/or an SOH value of the energy storage supply based on at least one of: a present current level, a present voltage level, a present temperature, and time-based information. The controller further estimates a bounded SOC value based on the SOC value, a first upper bound, a the first lower bound, and/or estimates a bounded SOH value based on the SOH value, a second upper bound, and a second lower bound. The controller then controls an electrification process of the electric vehicle based on the bounded SOC and/or SOH values.

Abstract: A system for determining a state of health (SOH) of an energy storage device comprises a controller configured to be coupled to the energy storage device. The controller is configured to determine a current value drawn by or supplied to the energy storage device over a predefined period of time. In response to the current value not satisfying a current threshold, the controller determines a current gain factor and determines an adjusted current value from the determined current value based on the current gain factor. The controller is configured to determine an estimated SOH of the energy storage device based on the adjusted current value, and indicate the estimated SOH on a user interface.

Abstract: A system and method used to predict the state of health of a battery in a powertrain of a vehicle including a vehicle route profile generator arranged to generate a vehicle specific rout profile based on historical vehicle driving information, are disclosed. In one example, the system and method also include a powertrain model to convert the vehicle specific route profile to a predicted battery demand profile, and a state of health profile generator to generate a predicted state of health profile of the battery based on the predicted battery demand. In another example, the system further includes a vehicle performance manager arranged to generate a command to modify operation of the powertrain to extend battery life based on the vehicle specific route profile.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a battery cell is disclosed. The method comprises recovering a cathode module from a used battery cell, assembling a new battery cell using the recovered cathode module. The used battery cell may be from a battery pack which has failed or reached end-of-life. The new battery cell may comprise a new anode module, a new electrolyte and/or a new separator. This may allow a battery cell to be manufactured in a manner which is more cost effective and environmentally sustainable than prior techniques.
