Abstract:
The invention comprises organosilanes and siloxanes containing groups where Q is an alkyl radical containing less than 7 carbon atoms, R is a divalent radical, free from aliphatic unsaturation, which is a hydrocarbon radical or a radical containing C, H and O atoms in an ether linkage, n=0 or 1, m=0, 1 or 2, the remaining silicon valencies being satisfied by O atoms present as siloxane linkages or R1 radicals selected from monovalent hydrocarbon radicals free from aliphatic unsaturation, -OH groups and hydrolysable groups. The siloxanes may be homopolymers or copolymers comprising also the units of the formula where Z is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical and b=0,1,2 or 3. The silanes may be prepared by reacting a compound of general formula with HSiR31 in the presence of a platinum catalyst, e.g. chloroplatinic acid, in a suitable solvent, e.g. xylene, optionally in the presence of a vinyl polymerization inhibitor, e.g. hydroquinone. The siloxanes may be prepared by (1) hydrolysing and condensing the hydrolysable silanes or (2) reacting a compound of general formula (I) with a siloxane which contains silicon-bonded hydrogen in the presence of a platinum catalyst. Examples describe the preparation of (1) a silane where m=0, R=-CH2-, n=1, R1=CH3 and (OC2H5)2 and the homopolymer derived therefrom, (2) a siloxane where m=0, R=-CH2-, n=1, R1=CH3, other valencies being satisfied by OSi(CH3)3 groups, (3) a silane where m=0, R=-CH2-, n=1, R1=(CH3)2 and Ph, (4) the siloxane and (5) a silane where m=2, Q=CH3 and C2H5 R=Ph, n=1, R1=Cl and (OCH3)2.

Abstract:
Organosilicon compounds viz. (1) silanes of the formula siloxanes of the unit formula and siloxane copolymers containing units of the Formula (B), and units of the formula wherein R is a monovalent hydrocarbon (h.c.) or halo-h.c. radical, R1 is a divalent h.c. or h.c. ether radical containing 1 to 18 C atoms, X is -OH or a hydrolysable radical, Z is as for R, n is 0, 1 or 2 and a is 0, 1, 2 or 3, can be made by reacting wherein A is a terminally unsaturated h.c. or halo-h.c. with the corresponding organosilicon compound containing Si-bonded hydrogen, in the presence of a Pt catalyst, preferably H2PtCl6, and a suitable solvent. The silanes and siloxanes can also be made by reacting HOR1SiRnX3- n, where X is as above defined except that it cannot be a halogen atom or other hydrolysable radical that is reactive with the carbonate group, with the appropriate chloroformate in the presence of a hydrogen chloride acceptor, to produce the desired silane, which may be hydrolysed and condensed to form the corresponding siloxane. In a typical Example (1) allylchloroformate was reacted with the disiloxane in the presence of pyridine, to yield the disiloxane
