    摘要: Traditional methods of making headlamp coils have left a portion of the coils with slightly irregular forms. These irregularities can result in defects in the ultimate beam pattern. Accommodating these defects in robust lamp and headlamp optical systems can reduce the performance that might otherwise be available. The preferred coil is therefore continuously coiled as a straight body, and carefully cut into segments. Subsequently, legs are welded to the coil segment ends. The coil is then left substantially undistorted by the manufacturing process that would otherwise normally leave a portion of the coils distorted. The method particularly enables a functional center leg coil.

    摘要: A lamp capsule with lug connectors, having a lamp bulb, a holder, and a lug is disclosed. The lamp capsule lead extends through the holder passage to fit closely with the lug foot. The lug foot is then rotary swaged to the lamp lead. The swaging mechanically and electrically seals the lead and the lug. An interference coupling is exactly formed along the lead by the swaging, so the lead and lug are precisely located and cannot move with reference to one another. The lug and lead are then tightly held and located with reference to the holder. The mechanical interference fit also forms an electrical connection that cannot separate like a cold weld. The swaging may additionally remove any excess exterior extension of the lead. As a result, the lug is quickly, accurately, and permanently coupled to the lamp lead, and holder preventing subsequent loosening or displacement that may effect lamp positioning or connection durability.

The first light source (12) is preferably a filamented tungsten halogen capsule. The first light source (12) is arrayed along a longitudinal axis (14) and emits substantially white light. A second light source (16) in the form of a plurality of light emitting diodes is arrayed about the first light source (12), and the second light source (16) emits light in directions substantially normal to the longitudinal axis (14), for example, along an axis (16a) for providing essentially aesthetic illumination. The aesthetic illumination can be used with or without the first light source being illuminated.

    摘要: A waterproof portable lamp (10) comprises a housing (12); a light source (14) including a plurality of LEDs, a power supply (16) for said light source (14) and a switch (18) for energizing said light source (14) contained within said housing (12). An opening (20) is formed in said housing (12) permitting egress of light when said light source (14) is energized. A flexible, transparent cover (22) is peripherally sealed to said opening (20) in a watertight manner and a switch activator (24) is substantially centrally located on and fixed to said flexible, transparent cover (22). The lamp (10) is activated be depressing the center of the flexible cover (22), which moves the switch activator (24) into contact with the switch (18).

An electrically insulating, thermally conductive circuit is affixed to the substrate; and at least one LED is positioned on each wing with electrically conductive traces connected thereto. The center portion is planar. The wings are bent at multiple angles forming legs, a first angle being greater than 90 degrees, a second angle being normal to the planar center portion. The preferred center portion is pentagonal. The bulb cooperates with a socket that comprises a base; a hollow pedestal extending from the base, the pedestal having a polygonal interior; a thermally conductive, core having an exterior matching the interior; a gap between interior walls of the interior and exterior walls; and a plurality of electrical contacts positioned in the gap for contacting the traces when the bulb is inserted in the socket.

    摘要: A vehicle headlamp system having optical reflector, lamp capsule, and gasket is disclosed. The vehicle headlamp system uses surfaces formed as part of the optical surface yielding located light source. As a result, the light source is more accurately positioned with respect to the reflector, and a more accurate beam pattern is formed. The lamp capsule is assisted in its location by a spring to force the capsule in proper location. The headlamp system no longer uses an O-ring to provide location, but an improved flat resilient gasket provides a sealing and locking force to maintain proper face to face coupling. The preferred lamp capsule uses a cup to shield light reflected from the press seal. The preferred lamp capsule uses a cup, and pedestal system mounting providing five axes of light source positioning. The preferred lamp capsule uses a clip coupling to join the light source holder to the plastic base.
