The present invention discloses a method of dispersing cyclodextrins into a base polymer. The method of the invention comprises reacting grafted microfine polymer powder with a cyclodextrin to form a cyclodextrin-attached grafted polymer, and mixing the cyclodextrin-attached grafted polymer and the base polymer for a sufficient time that the cyclodextrin-attached grafted polymer is dispersed within the base polymer. The present invention also provides several cyclodextrin-inclusion complex products formed by the method of the invention. This products include an antimicrobial polymer blend, a fragrant polymer blend, and a dyed polymer blend.

A slurry process for polymerizing ethylene is disclosed. The process comprises polymerizing ethylene in the presence of an α-olefin, hydrogen, and a catalyst comprising an activator and a supported, dimethylsilyl-bridged bis(indenoindolyl)zirconium complex. The process has high catalyst activity and produces polyethylene having a broad molecular weight distribution.

A multiple stage or multiple zone process for making olefin polymers is disclosed. A single-site catalyst, preferably one that contains a heteroatomic ligand, is used in the first stage or zone, and a Ziegler-Natta catalyst is used at a higher temperature in later stages or zones. A parallel multiple zone process is also described. The processes, which can be performed adiabatically, give polymers with improved thermal processing ability.

Single site nitrogen and oxygen metallacyclic catalysts comprising at least two polymerization-stable anionic ancillary ligands and a Group 4-10 metal are disclosed wherein the nitrogen or oxygen heterocyclic catalyst is produced by dimerizing an alkylamido or trimerizing a metal containing oxane. The polymerization-stable anionic ancillary ligands are preferably either cyclopentadienyl, borataaryl, pyrrolyl, azaboralinyl, pyridinyl, or a quinolinyl ring. A process for preparing boratabenzene derivatives is provided. The process includes the hydrogenation of a compound containing a boranaphthalene functional group to form a boratabenzene-containing compound. Depending on the compound containing a boranaphthalene functional group, the resulting boratabenzene compound may be converted into a catalyst suitable for olefin polymerization. A process for forming a boratabenzene derivative from a halo-dioxaborolane is also provided. In this process, a halo-dioxaborolane is reacted with a piperylide salt for form a pentadienyl dioxaborolane. The pentadienyl-dioxaborolane is reacted with a strong base to form an intermediate boratacyclohexanediene salt. The intermediate boratacyclohexanediene salt is then reacted with a trialkylaluminum compound to form an alkylboratabenzene salt.
