A single-site olefin polymerization catalyst and method of making it are disclosed. The catalyst comprises an activator and an organometallic complex. The complex comprises a Group 3 to 10 transition or lanthanide metal, M, and at least one indenoindolyl ligand that is &pgr;-bonded to M. The key ligand is made in two steps from readily available indanones and aryl hydrazines. Reaction of its anion with a source of the metal completes a remarkably simple synthetic route to a new family of single-site olefin polymerization catalysts.

A catalysis system containing an olefin polymerization catalyst having at least one Group 3 to Group 10 transition metal or one of the Lanthanide series of the Periodic Table and an organic support is homogeneous and has particular applicability in the production of polyolefins having narrow molecular weight distribution. The support of the catalysis system is the reaction product of a silicone and a polyamine. The catalysis system has high thermal stability.

Disclosed is a method of forming a polyimide coating in a pattern on a surface. A first solution is prepared of an organic solvent, and diamine and dianhydride monomers. The monomers are polymerized to form a polyamic acid that is soluble in the organic solvent. About 10 to about 95% of the amic acid groups in the polyamic acid are imidized, forming a partially imidized polyamic acid. A more concentrated solution of the partially imidized polyamic acid is prepared and about 0.1 to about 10 wt % of a thixotrope is mixed with the more concentrated solution to form a paste. A template is placed over the surface and the paste is forced through the template onto the surface. The solvent is evaporated and the partially imidized polyamic acid on the surface is fully imidized.

The copolyetherimide ester compositions contain respective amounts of copolyetherimide ester resin and salts of aliphatic polycarboxylic acid. Preferably amounts of multifunctional epoxide are also incorporated into the compositions for further increasing the melt strength thereof. The compositions exhibit suitable melt strength for blow molding thereof.

Novel flame retardant agents comprise polyalkylene oxides or a derivative thereof and end-capped with brominated phthalimide groups, and have the general formulae ##STR1## R.sup.1 is alkylene of from about 2 to about 6 carbon atoms; R.sup.1 is alkyl of from about 1 to about 6 carbon atoms; n is from about 4 to about 40; n' is from about 3 to about 15; and n" is from about 1 to about 10. Thermoplastic compositions, for example, polyphenylene ether compositions, rendered flame retardant with the novel compounds have a high resistance to additive vaporization and surface liquid exudation as well as desirable high flow characteristics.
