    摘要: The track assembly of a seat adjuster is formed by upper and lower tracks of inverted U-shaped cross-section with the lower track being nested in the upper track and with the rear end portion of the upper track serving as an anchor for a seat belt. A tubular sheath of anti-friction material is located between the tracks to promote gliding of the upper track on the lower track. Crash bars with longitudinally spaced teeth on their lower edges are housed within and anchored to the lower track. If the vehicle is involved in a frontal crash, load exerted by the seat belt on the upper track causes the rear end portion of the upper track to buckle upwardly and bring a latch on the lower side of the upper track into latching relation with the teeth of the crash bars for purposes of locking the upper track against upward and forward movement relative to the lower track. The bottom of the sheath normally holds the latch out of latching relation with the teeth and yields under a crash condition to allow the latch to move into latching relation with the teeth.

    摘要: A method of changing the response level for any chemical test kits designed for the determination of a metal or compound (such as lead) in paint and other media is disclosed. The invention solves two common problems that exist with using chemical test kits for the detection of lead in paint or other coatings and media: (1) conversion of the paint sample into particles small enough to dissolve the metal in the sample; and, (2) controlling the amount of (paint) sample that gets exposed to the chemicals. This is accomplished by using a coffee grinder or equivalent tool plus a solid (food) product to break up the paint sample into small particles and at the same time dilute the concentration of the metal, while in solid form, down to a level that results in obtaining a positive response at the desired concentration.

    摘要: A gasifying device is fed oil from the return spill rail of a diesel engine, or from a reservoir of oil and gasifies the lighter fractions of the oil using an electrical heater, the gasified products being fed to the air intake manifold of the engine. In one embodiment unvaporized oil is fed from the gasifying device to the oil supply line to the engine, thereby avoiding a build-up of heavy oil components in the device. Several embodiments are disclosed. The device improves the handling performance of a vehicle fitted with the engine, the exhaust emissions, and the fuel economy. The device may also be fitted to a petrol engine.

    摘要: A seat adjuster mounts a vehicle seat for back and forth adjustment between different functional positions and is adapted to lock the seat in each selected position. When the seat back is tilted forwardly, the seat adjuster releases the seat to enable the seat to move fully forwardly to an entry position. A mechanical memory is incorporated in the seat adjuster and, when the seat is shifted rearwardly following forward movement to its entry position, the mechanical memory automatically stops the seat in its last-established functional position.
