Abstract:
A colorimeter capable of calibrating color monitors, whether having cathode ray tube or liquid crystal (LCD) displays, is provided by a photometric array of photodetector and optical filter pairs. The filters include long-pass, edge filters which cover overlapping regions at the upper end of the visible spectrum and a filter which covers the entire visible spectrum. The outputs of the photodetectors are digitally synthesized to provide a response which mimics the response established by the Commission Internationale de 1′Eclairage (CIE) xyz (bar) functions almost perfectly. The response which is mimicked may be represented by the CIE color matching functions. The pairs and the associated components are mounted on a printed circuit board captured in a clamshell housing and having an array of apertures which define angularly constrained fields of view of a surface from which the light, to be colormetrically analyzed, emanates. The printed circuit board includes a field programmable gate array programmed to read data from the plurality of filter/detector pairs in parallel. The colorimeter is capable generally of measuring the color characteristics, especially the color temperatures of radiation radiating and reflecting bodies (sources), including so-called black bodies.
Abstract:
A symmetric monitor calibrator for mounting on a cathode ray tube or monitor with a surface. The calibrator has a case that holds electronic and optic components. Suction cups hold the calibrator to the surface, in which the suction cups are attached to the end of supporting elements that surround the case. At least three supporting elements with a common connecting point to form one support structure are connected to the top of the case. The supporting elements extend out creating a greater diameter than the case. The supporting elements and therefore suction cups uniformly surround the center point of the case to prevent rotation caused by the effects of gravity.

Abstract:
A calorimeter for measuring a color of light includes a color sensing device, a suspension means and a counterweight. The suspension means suspends the color sensing device in an operative relationship relative to a color producing device, while the counterweight is secured to the suspension means and balances the color sensing device in the operative relationship relative to the color producing device.
Abstract:
A system for detecting piston diversity between mirror segments. The system includes a pupil plane mask, a transform optical element, and an image detector. The pupil plane mask includes two or more open mask areas and two or more polarizers. Each polarizer is disposed within a respective one of the open mask areas. A first one of the two or more polarizers has a first polarization orientation, and a second of the two or more polarizers has a second polarization orientation.
Abstract:
A colorimeter for measuring a color of light includes a color sensing device, a hanging means, and a means for reducing color distortion. The hanging means hangs the color sensing device in an operative relationship relative to a color producing device. The means for reducing color distortion reduces color distortion on the color producing device While the color sensing device is in the operative relationship relative to the color producing device.
Abstract:
One embodiment of a method for calibrating a test color measurement device in conjunction with an emissive display includes measuring initial spectral sensitivities of at least four channels of the test color measurement device, linearly regressing the spectral sensitivities to a least-square best fit to CIE color matching functions, measuring CIE tristimulus values of test colors on the display using a reference color measurement device, measuring the CIE tristimulus values on the display using the test color measurement device, transforming the CIE tristimulus values measured by the test color measurement device to CIE tristimulus values that would have been measured by the reference color measurement device, using a nonlinear function with variable fitting coefficients, and storing initial fitting coefficient values that provide a least-square best fit of the CIE tristimulus values measured by the test color measurement device and the CIE tristimulus values measured by the reference color measurement device.
