摘要:
A light source (10) comprises a tubular glass heat pipe (12) having a given inside diameter ID. A tubular fiberglass wick (14) is positioned within the glass heat pipe (12). The fiberglass wick (14) has an outside diameter OD substantially equal to the given inside diameter ID and has a substantially centrally located open chamber (16) extending the length thereof. A quantity of an evaporable-condensable medium (17) is provided within the glass heat pipe (12) and a metal cap (18) selected from the group of glass-sealing metals and alloys is fixed to a proximal end (20) of the glass heat pipe (12). Heat dissipaters (22) are fixed to the distal end (24) of the heat pipe (12) and a light emitting diode (26) is fixed to the metal cap (18). Power conducting traces (28) are formed with the heat pipe (12) and are electrically connected to the light emitting diode (26). A lamp (40) can be formed with a plurality of the light sources (10).

摘要:
A fluorescent lamp (10) includes a tubular member or envelope (12) having an arc generating and sustaining medium (15) therein. As known, the tubular envelope (12) is constructed of a suitable glass, for example lime glass. An electrode (14) is provided in each end of the tubular member (12) and a phosphor coating (16) is applied to the interior surface (18) of the tubular member (12). A mercury dispenser (20) is situated within the tubular member (12). The mercury dispenser (20) includes a body (21) composed of a material selected from the group consisting of glass and ceramic materials. The body (21) is provided with a bore (22). A first material (24) capable of wetting mercury coats the bore. In a preferred embodiment the first material (24) is silver having a thickness between 0.1μ and 8μ. A quantity of mercury (26) is deposited in the bore (22) in contact with the first material (24).

A high pressure, lamp may be made in a pressure vessel by using an induction coil to melt an edge portion of a sealing wafer pressed against the circumference of an opening in the body of the lamp envelope. The pressure vessel and the lamp envelope are filled with desired fill materials. Induction heating is carried out by the induction coil and induction receiver that presses against the wafer, the lamp envelope or both to hold the melting piece or pieces in contact. The induction receiver may be fused to the lamp body forming a functional part of the overall lamp structure. The preferred resulting lamp includes a bonded metal piece that can be conveniently used for electrical or mechanical coupling or positioning of the lamp with respect to a base.
