The cable connector assembly includes a pair of USB connectors (10), a pair of conductive latches (40) positioned at either side of the USB connectors, a cover (30) enclosing the USB connectors and mounting the latches therein. When the cable connector assembly is mated to a pair of complementary connectors mounted on an electronic apparatus (2), each latch and each grounding bar electrically connects a shell (12) of the USB connectors to a grounded panel (23) of the electronic apparatus. The shroud forms two circular lips (823) at each of opposite sides of a front portion thereof. After the cable connector assembly is mated with the complementary connectors of the electronic apparatus, and free ends of the latches engage with the grounded panel, the shroud is pushed forward on the cover so that the circular lips of the shroud abut against a portion of the latches thereby preventing the latches from disengaging from the grounded panel even under conditions of vibration. Therefore, the cable connector assembly device is securely and reliably mated with the connectors and grounded panel of the electronic apparatus.

A post (24) is formed on a rear of the shielding door, and a block (14) is formed on the base. A spring beam (23) has an arcuate front end (232) and a rear end (231). The rear end is fixed on the block, and the front end sits on the post. When a complementary plug connector (27) is inserted into the GBIC, the front end of the spring beam is deformably pushed upwardly by the post. A spring force is thereby generated in the spring beam, which exerts a downward force on the post. When the plug connector is withdrawn from the GBIC, the spring force of the spring beam pushes the post down. This causes the shielding door to rotatingly return to its original position.

A plurality of ribs radially project from an outer periphery of the body. Each rib has an interface at a free edge thereof distant from the cavity. The receptacle portion comprises an outer wall defining a circular chamber therein. A protrusion protrudes upwardly from a bottom of the chamber to an opening thereof. A blind hole is defined in the protrusion and does not extend through an upper free end portion of the protrusion. A distance between the interfaces of two opposite ribs is slightly larger than a bore diameter of the chamber. The cavity has a bore diameter equal to an outer diameter of the protrusion. In assembly, the plug portion is inserted into the receptacle portion whereby the protrusion enters into the cavity and the ribs enter into the chamber. A side wall of the protrusion is clamped by the body of the plug portion and compressed toward the blind hole whereby the protrusion is securely retained in the cavity of the plug portion.

The base further has deflectable hooks (540) at lateral side ends thereof. The hooks (540) engage with crossbars (627) of the header connector when the IDC connector mates with the header connector. An excessively inner deflection of the hooks is prevented by an engagement between the hooks and lateral side faces (527) of the base, and an excessively outer deflection of the hooks is prevented by an engagement between the hooks and the inner latches of the cover.
