    Abstract: A reticle for an electron beam system for direct writing applications has a base layer that contains a reticle pattern; a set of reinforcing struts connected to the base layer separating the base layer into a set of non-contiguous subfields; in which the pattern is carried by a set of apertures areas in said base layer; and in which the set of non-contiguous subfields has overlapping rim portions in which the overlap portions of corresponding lines have a pattern that produces the correct exposure when the subfields are correctly aligned and minimizes pattern feature discontinuities when the subfields are misaligned. A corresponding method consists of overlapping the reticle at the field or subfield boundaries and forming a spatial breakup or a partially transmissive area of the pattern elements contained in the overlapped areas, preventing shorts and open failures in the lines or pattern elements and providing additional tolerance for the alignment of the adjacent fields or subfields.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a device which provides a logic signal that indicates a true "on air" event during broadcast production. Each audio channel input from a microphone to a mixing console is coupled to a circuit arrangement which determines whether a mute switch is selected, a fader is set for full attenuation, or an input switch is deselected. If none of these events have occurred a signal is provided to an external display which is optically isolated from the mixing console. This signal controls a tally which indicates to a user that the corresponding input channel, for example, from a microphone is active.

    Abstract: An X-Y positioning system for electron beam lithography employs an adaptive drive system for feedback control. A gradually increasing drive voltage, superimposed upon a step wave, is summed with the position error signal to achieve position within the system deadband zone. The drive voltage, while superimposed upon the error voltage, increases until mechanical friction and drift in the deadband zone are overcome. A function generator alters the error signal such that the combined error signal and drive voltage cause the system to approach the null point minimizing servo oscillations. A limit circuit determines when the system has reached a set of inner limits and generates an operative output signal to the signal controller which continues until the position exceeds a second, outer set of limits.

    Abstract: A three phase alternator is driven by a variable speed prime mover, and its rectified output is pulse width modulated by a gate controlled H-bridge power switch circuit. Predetermined pairs of power switches are gated on and off according to programmed duration and timing instructions contained in a read only memory. In a first embodiment, a sine wave output is produced by successive pulse trains. The first pulse train has alternating positive and negative constant amplitude pulses, with the widths of positive pulses varying sinusoidally and the widths of negative pulses being constant. The second pulse train has alternating positive and negative pulses of constant amplitude, with the pulse widths of the negative pulse components varying sinusoidally, and the pulse widths of the positive components being constant. The components of the first and second pulse trains have an energy distribution which corresponds to one cycle of a sine wave having a fixed frequency. The pulse width modulated waveform is filtered to produce a smooth, low distortion sine wave output waveform. In a second embodiment, the on and off states, and the duration and timing of the on and off states, are controlled to produce a pseudo sine output power wave having an RMS value of 120 VAC at 60 Hz.

    Abstract: A screed for forming the surface of a freshly poured concrete slab has parallel blades which are slidable relative to each other enabling extension and contraction of the screed during operation. The concrete surface is formed by pivoting movement of the screed around fixed pivot structure which supports and anchors one end of the screed. Vibrating mechanism may be included to tamp the concrete concurrently with the surface forming operation. An asymmetrical secure-release wheel (70) is defined by several surfaces which extend radially outward from a pivot hole (70K).
