    摘要: A magnetic device is provided for placement on the top surface of a printed circuit board with surface mount connection on the bottom surface. The circuit board includes first and second sets of slots bisecting each other. The device includes a bobbin with a plurality of support members each having a face shaped to engage the top surface of the printed circuit board and a plurality of pins attached to the support members. The pins have a first portion shaped to pass through the first set of slots, and a second portion shaped to pass through the second set of slots. The second portion of the pins is shaped to engage the bottom surface of the circuit board, locking the magnetic device in place against the top surface of the circuit board and providing a soldering area for surface mounting on the bottom surface.

Also, a circuit board assembly may have two or more circuit boards electrically and mechanically connected by at least one magnetic component.

    摘要: A magnetic component provides both electrical interconnectivity and mechanical support between stacked circuit boards. The magnetic component includes a bobbin structure and a magnetically permeable core. The bobbin structure includes an upper bobbin pin rail and a lower bobbin pin rail. The upper bobbin pin rail includes one or more upper bobbin pins extending from the upper bobbin pin rail. Each upper bobbin pin may be adapted for soldering onto a first circuit board. At least one lower bobbin pin extends from the lower bobbin pin rail. Each lower bobbin pin may also be adapted for soldering onto a second circuit board, forming a circuit board assembly. Each soldered connection between a bobbin pin and a circuit board may provide an electrical connection between the circuit board and the magnetic component. Each soldered connection may also provide a mechanical attachment between a printed circuit board and the magnetic component. A conductive coil is positioned on the bobbin structure and may be connected to an upper or lower bobbin pin. The core is positioned near the conductive coil for providing an electrical connection between the circuit boards through magnetic coupling.

Passage openings are positioned on each winding surface section relative the winding surface so that a portion of the partition is always between the passage opening and the oppositely disposed winding surface section.

    摘要: A bobbin apparatus and associated magnetic component is configured to reduce gap losses associated with a core air gap in a bobbin-wound magnetic component such as an inductor or transformer. The bobbin includes a step structure protruding from the winding surface between bobbin ends. The step is operable to provide spacing between the conductive windings disposed on the bobbin and the core air gap inside the bobbin axial passage. The spacing reduces stray flux interactions with the conductive winding, thereby reducing gap losses and preventing undesirable heating of the winding and core. Additional winding configurations and methods for use with the bobbin apparatus are also provided.

The circuit board has first and second sets of channels, the first channels having a first end of a first size, a second end of a second size, and first and second sides at least one of which taper inward between the two ends to define an opening smaller than either size. The magnetic device includes a plurality of pins extending transversely with respect to the circuit board, and a plurality of legs extending parallel with the pins and sized to pass transversely through the first end of the first set of channels and to slide laterally through and resiliently engage the opening, but to prevent transverse movement with respect to the second end of the first set of channels.

    摘要: A magnetic component for an electronic circuit includes a core having a core body and a core leg extending from the core body. The core body defines a core body height, and the core leg defines a core leg height less than the core body height. A conductive winding is positioned about the core leg. The winding defines a winding height. A winding height offset ratio is defined as the winding height divided by the core body height. In some embodiments the winding height offset ratio is less than about 1.1. The winding can be positioned on a bobbin structure disposed about the core leg. The magnetic component can be positioned in an enclosure to form an electronic device such as a power control or a power supply, and a thermally conductive gap-filler can be positioned between the magnetic component and the enclosure wall to dissipate heat from the magnetic component. The reduced height of the core leg provides a reduced gap distance between the core body and the enclosure wall for improving heat transfer, reducing thermal gap-filler material volume and reducing enclosure size. A method of forming an electronic device is also provided.
