    摘要: A downhole well pumping assembly has a shroud with an upper section and a lower section sealed from one another. A submersible pump and a gas separator are housed within the upper section of the shroud. The gas separator has a liquid outlet in fluid communication with an intake of the pump, and a gas outlet in fluid communication with the gas outlet in the shroud. A motor is housed within the lower section of the shroud, the motor being coupled to the gas separator for rotating the gas separator and the pump. A well fluid lower inlet is in the shroud below the motor and a well fluid lower outlet is in the shroud above the motor.

    摘要: A gas separator has a separator member that rotates with a shaft for separation of fluid components. A flow divider directs more dense fluid to the pump and less dense fluid into an annulus surrounding the pump. An impeller is located within the flow divider for urging fluid out of a downstream gas exit port. A single large gas exit port is used and may be combined with use of a single large fluid inlet. An auger may be located within the rotary separator member. Holes may be located in the sidewall of the rotary member or chamber. The holes are preferably located in a helical pattern above and adjacent the flights of the auger or are in vertical columns adjacent the baffles. The chamber may have a cylindrical or tapered profile. Alternatively, a series of sub-chambers may be used, each having a smaller radius than the preceding, upstream sub-chambers.

    摘要: A connection between a shaft and a coupling that preferably involves involute shaped splines is designed to reduce stress from torque applied to the shaft by a drive motor. To avoid stress concentration at the mouth of the coupling on startup, the shaft splines are made to taper from the shaft end down to the spline end. As a result, the initial contact with the coupling splines occurs within the coupling and removed from it mouth. The shaft is allowed to elastically twist in response to the applied torque as the contact area increases with shaft twisting and the contact line moves toward the mouth of the coupling. Some shaft elastic twist occurs without adding stress to the shaft splines until coupling contact is made.

    摘要: A submersible well pump assembly using threaded connections, the submersible well pump assembly having a first housing, a second housing, a clamp ring, and at least one anti-rotation member. The first housing has an end having an outer surface, an end face, and a shoulder on that outer surface. The second housing has an end having an outer surface and an end face. The outer surface of the second housing has external threads formed thereon and the end face of the second housing abuts the end face of the first housing. The clamp ring is rotatably and slidably carried on the first housing and has internal threads that engage the external threads of the second housing. The clamp ring also has an internal shoulder that engages the shoulder of the first housing. To keep the connection secure, the assembly has at least one anti-rotation member having a cooperative element on each end of each housing to inhibit rotation of one housing relative to the other.

    摘要: A device and method can detect, and also break, an occurrence of gas lock in an electrical submersible pump assembly in a well bore based upon surface or downhole data without the need for operator intervention. To detect an occurrence of gas lock, an instantaneous value is monitored using a sensor. Then a controller compares the instantaneous value to a threshold value over a predetermined duration to thereby detect the occurrence of gas lock in the electrical submersible pump assembly. Sensors can include, for example, a differential pressure gauge, a pressure gage located in a pump stage located toward the inlet, a fluid temperature sensor located toward the discharge, a free gas detector located near the pump discharge, an electrical resistivity gage, a flow meter located within surface production tubing, and a vibration sensor attached to a tubing string to measure a vibration signature.
