摘要： We describe a display device for displaying an electronic document page comprising a central rewritable portion, a non-rewritable border with external lateral physical dimensions defined by the display edges, wherein said border is coloured to substantially match a background colour of said central rewritable portion such that when a foreground part of said document page is displayed on said central rewritable portion the appearance of margins of said document page is provided by said background coloured border whereby in use said displayed electronic document page appears to extend up to said display edges, and wherein the surface of the display is substantially flat over the lateral physical dimensions from the central rewritable portion across the border to the display edges.

摘要： We describe a method of displaying a document page with a predetermined size using a display device having edges defining lateral dimensions not substantially larger than said predetermined size and having a central re-writable display portion and a non-re-writable border, said document page comprising a central, foreground portion bearing one or both of text and graphics, a background having a background colour and at least one margin having said background colour, the method comprising: inputting page data defining a page for display; processing said page data to crop margins of said page such that, when displayed on said re-writable display portion, said non-re-writable border gives the appearance of said cropped margins, said processing generating cropped page data; and outputting said cropped page data for display on said re-writable display portion of said display.

摘要： We describe power control techniques for an document reader with an electrophoretic display. In embodiments the document reader comprises a main processor to display information and at least one secondary processor to detect, say, a user input gesture; a battery to provide power to both processors; and a controllable switch coupled between said battery and said main processor and having a control line coupled to said secondary processor, to switch power from said battery to said main processor while said secondary processor is powered. In embodiments a power consumption measured in months is desired so that rather than put the main processor into a standby mode power to the main processor is switched off entirely but the system is arranged to be able to start-up quickly from this configuration.

摘要： A digital wireless intercom system provides voice communications between selected mobile user stations via allocated radio channels. All communications flow via channels between the mobile stations and the base station. The base station includes a crosspoint processor for setting up desired communication links between users. A data store contains data identifying the preferences of each user, including the other users with whom communication links are to be set up. On receipt of a user ID from a mobile station, a correlator in the base station correlates the particular user with the channel being used by the mobile station of the user, so that the crosspoint processor can identify the channels in use for setting up the required communication links. The correlator dynamically updates the channel allocations as channels used by any particular user change. In this way, the crosspoint processor seamlessly follows channel changes, maintaining the required communication links with particular users. Separate wireless cells can be provided and the system supports roaming of individual mobile users from one cell to another whilst maintaining the required communication set-up by the crosspoint processor.
