Abstract: Heating apparatus includes an air inlet, a plurality of air outlets, an impeller, a motor for rotating the impeller to draw air through the air inlet, a user interface for allowing a user to select a rotational speed of the motor from a user selectable range of values, and a plurality of heater assemblies each comprising at least one positive temperature coefficient (PTC) heating element for heating air passing from the air inlet to a respective air outlet. The magnitude of a current drawn by the heater assemblies is detected, and the rotational speed of the motor is controlled independently from the rotational speed selected by the user depending on a characteristic of the current drawn by the heater assemblies.

Abstract: A method for generating a clock signal from an AC power supply signal includes receiving a reference signal at a first input of a comparator and receiving the AC power supply signal at a second input of the comparator. A clock signal is output by the comparator based on a comparison of the reference signal and the AC power supply signal, such that transitions of the clock signal take place while the reference signal is at a trigger voltage. Following each clock signal transition, the reference signal is changed from the trigger voltage to a hysteresis voltage that reduces a likelihood of the comparator outputting, immediately after each clock signal transition, a spurious transition of the clock signal due to noise on the AC power supply signal. The reference signal is then returned from the hysteresis voltage to the trigger voltage prior to return of the AC power supply signal to a level intended to cause a further clock signal transition at the output of the comparator.

Abstract: A haircare device includes at least one power semiconductor switch coupled to drive, in use, a heater. A temperature sensor disposed for sensing a temperature of the at least one power semiconductor switch and outputting a temperature signal indicative of the sensed temperature. A controller is configured to determine whether the temperature signal is indicative of a temperature of the one or more power semiconductor switch exceeding a threshold. When the temperature signal is indicative of the temperature of the one or more power semiconductor switch exceeding the threshold, a power output of the at least one power semiconductor switch is turned off or reduced.

Abstract: A haircare appliance includes a pressure sensor for generating a pressure signal indicative of air pressure within an airflow path, the pressure sensor being upstream of an airflow generator. A controller is configured to estimate, based at least partly on the pressure signal, a blockage factor corresponding to an amount by which the airflow path is blocked. When the estimated blockage factor exceeds a blockage warning threshold, a warning indicative of a partial blockage is output.
