    Abstract: A prosthetic valve can include an annular frame that is radially expandable and compressible, a skirt member attached to the annular frame, and a protective member attached to an inner surface the skirt member. The protective member is less abrasive than the skirt member and extends circumferentially around at least a portion of the annular frame.

    Abstract: A prosthetic heart valve and associated methods for assembling a prosthetic heart valve including a plurality of leaflets is disclosed. As one example, a prosthetic heart valve includes a frame; a plurality of commissure support elements, each connected the frame and including two axially-extending members spaced apart from one another to form a window; and a plurality of leaflets, each leaflet comprising a body and two opposing commissure tabs, each commissure tab arranged adjacent to another commissure tab to form a pair of commissure tabs that are disposed in a commissure support element to form a commissure. Each commissure tab includes a series of overlapping layers that include a first set of two overlapping layers that extends through the window and a second set of two overlapping layers that extends away from the first set of two overlapping layers and over an outer side of a corresponding axially-extending member.

    Abstract: A prosthetic heart valve comprises an annular frame that is radially compressible and expandable between a radially compressed state and a radially expanded state, wherein the frame elongates in an axial direction when radially compressed from the radially expanded state to the radially compressed state. Leaflets are coupled to the frame such that when the frame is in the radially expanded state, the leaflets have slack in an axial direction, wherein when the frame is radially compressed to a partially radially compressed state between the radially expanded state and the radially compressed state, the leaflets are in a relaxed state, and wherein when the frame is in the radially compressed state, the leaflets are stretched in the axial direction.

    Abstract: A method of implanting a prosthetic heart valve within a patient can comprise inserting a distal end portion of a delivery apparatus and a prosthetic heart valve into the patient and advancing the prosthetic heart valve to a deployment location within the heart of the patient and inflating one or more of a plurality of differently-sized balloons in a balloon-assembly on the distal end portion of the delivery apparatus. The prosthetic heart valve can be mounted on the balloon assembly in a crimped state and the inflating of the one or more of the plurality of differently-sized balloons can expand the prosthetic heart valve from the crimped state to a radially expanded state having a non-cylindrical shape.

    Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for construction of prosthetic heart valves, particularly techniques for attachment of scalloped edges of valvular leaflets to struts of mechanical frames using sutures and/or other materials as intermediate coupling members. In some embodiments, the scalloped edges of the leaflets are coupled to the segments of the struts of the frame via suture loops that are oriented transverse to the scalloped edges of the leaflets. In some embodiments, central portions of scallop line segments are attached to the scalloped edges of the leaflets and are not attached to the frame. In some embodiments, strut segments are tapered to limit translation of suture loops. In some embodiments, a cloth strip couples the scalloped edges of the leaflets to frame struts. In some embodiments, the scalloped edge is attached to adjacent segments of intersecting struts via sliding suture loops, where the adjacent segments join at a common pivot joint.

    Abstract: An implantable prosthetic valve that is radially collapsible to a collapsed configuration and radially expandable to an expanded configuration includes an annular frame including a plurality of angled strut members, and a skirt member secured to the frame. The skirt member includes a plurality of extension portions wrapped around at least one strut member adjacent the extension portions. The prosthetic valve further includes a cord member threaded through at least a portion of the plurality of extension portions to secure the skirt member to the at least one strut member.
