The present invention provides a magnetic recording medium excellent in S/N ratio and durability. The magnetic recording medium is characterized in that a magnetic powder having a relative surface area of at least 35 m.sup.2 /g and an average adsorption of myristic acid of up to 0.5 mg/m.sup.2 in methylethylketone solution of an average concentration of 0.6 g/100 ml, on the one hand, and a magnetic layer comprising a bond having at least one hydrophilic group selected from among SO.sub.3 M, SO.sub.4 M, PO.sub.4 M.sub.2 and N.sup.+ R.sup.1 R.sup.2 R.sup.3 X.sup.- and at least one reactive group selected from among hydroxide group, thiol group, amino group and epoxy group, on the other hand, is bridged by at least one briding agent selected from among polyisocyanate, polyamine and polythiol.

A magnetic recording medium which comprises a magnetic layer is prepared by a dispersion of a powder of a ferromagnetic material in a binding material which is a macromolecular compound comprising an epoxy group, followed by addition to the dispersion of a silane compound comprising an amino group or a thiol group. A low viscosity magnetic coating material in which a fine powder of magnetic material is dispersed with excellent stability can thus be prepared. The recording medium prepared by using the coating material exhibits excellent magnetic characteristics, excellent durability and excellent running properties under variety of environmental conditions with desirable stability.

Disclosed is a magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer comprising a vinyl chloride copolymer as a binder and a magnetic powder and formed on a non-magnetic support. The binder is a mixture comprised of (a) a vinyl chloride copolymer having a quaternary ammonium salt and a hydroxyl group and (b) a vinyl chloride copolymer having at least one anionic hydrophilic group selected from carboxylic acids, sulfur-containing acids, phosphorus-containing acids, and salts thereof, and a hydroxyl group. The ratio of copolymer (a) to copolymer (b) is such that the equivalent ratio of the quaternary ammonium salt in copolymer (a) to the anionic hydrophilic group in copolymer (b) is from 0.2 to 5.

The binder exhibits excellent dispersion of an active material for an electrode. A polyvinyl chloride plastisol composition is provided, which contains as essential components (A) polyvinyl chloride resin particles prepared by microsuspension polymerization of vinyl chloride in the presence of a polymethyl methacrylate resin soluble in vinyl chloride and having polymethyl methacrylate resin localized on the surfaces of the resin particles, and (B) a plasticizer, and which has excellent thermal stability and stability with time of viscosity. A method for producing a lithium ion secondary battery includes the steps of: forming a positive electrode mixture layer on a positive electrode substrate to obtain a positive electrode; forming a negative electrode mixture layer on a negative electrode substrate to obtain a negative electrode; forming an electronically insulating porous film that is bonded to a surface of at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode; interposing a separator between the positive electrode and the negative electrode to form an electrode plate assembly; and impregnating the electrode plate assembly with a non-aqueous electrolyte. The step of forming a porous film includes the steps of: preparing a porous film paste that contains a film binder comprising a thermo-cross-linkable resin and a particulate filler; and applying the porous film paste onto a surface of at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode and heating the resultant applied film.
