Abstract:
Systems and methods for providing targeted advertising to media display devices that may be located away from a user premises based on user preferences. A computing system may detect presence of multiple user devices within a proximity of the computing system, and a user profile associated with each particular user device may then be accessed. A net demographic profile associated with the multiple user devices may be determined, and then advertising content may be selected for presentation by a display device based upon the net demographic profile.

Abstract:
This document relates to a vehicle entertainment device 1 having a driver safety mode and an enhanced audio playback function. The device 1 detects whether the vehicle in which the entertainment device is situated is in motion, or if the driver is preparing to drive the vehicle momentarily. If either of these conditions is detected, the processor 20 acts to disable the video playback on the screen 3 of the entertainment device. At the same time, the processor 20 causes an audio descriptor track corresponding to the disabled video to be played through the speakers 4 of the entertainment device. The audio descriptor track is in addition to the main audio track accompanying the video and provides a verbal description of the content of the video.
Abstract:
A video services receiver and a related method for presenting video content in a picture-in-picture (PIP) window rendered on a display element are presented here. The method involves presenting recorded secondary video content in the PIP window while presenting primary video content in a main area of the display element, resulting in PIP video content. The method continues by receiving a trick play command for the PIP video content, and manipulating presentation of the PIP video content in the PIP window in accordance with the received trick play command. The manipulated PIP video content is presented in the PIP window while concurrently presenting the primary video content in the main area of the display element.
Abstract:
An active shutter device for use in securely displaying content from a display to a user. The secure content is encoded as a sequence of video frames interspersed within a set of video frames, at least some of the other frames within the set including obfuscating data. The device comprises a receiver for receiving a synchronisation signal, at least one shutter mechanism, and a processor. The processor, in response to the synchronisation signal, controls the shutter mechanism so as to synchronise the shutter mechanism with, for example, the refresh rate or the video frame display rate of the display. The processor is configured to receive a frame sequence corresponding to the sequence of video frames used of the secure content, and control the shutter mechanism, in response to the received frame sequence, to allow only the video frames in the secure sequence to pass through the shutter.
