摘要: A separator for separating a first fluid from a second fluid through rotation about an axis of rotation, the first fluid having a density less than the density of the second fluid. In one embodiment, the separator includes a separation chamber mounted for rotation about the axis of rotation. A first weir is positioned in fluid communication with the separation chamber. A second weir is positioned over which the second fluid may pass to exit the separation chamber through a collection chamber. A fluid pressure chamber is positioned radially outwardly from the crest of the second weir to receive the second fluid as it passes over the second weir. The fluid pressure chamber is partially defined by an exit weir over which the second fluid may pass. A gas chamber is positioned in the passageway between the second weir and the exit weir and includes a gas escape passageway through which excess gas may escape from the gas chamber such that a gas barrier is formed to maintain the fluid level between the gas chamber and the fluid pressure chamber at the radial level of the gas escape passageway. A gas introduction passageway is provided through which gas may be introduced into the gas chamber.

摘要: The present invention is directed to a novel rotor design employed in a centrifuge for use in separating fluids. The rotor is configured with a separation chamber which comprises a plurality of channels extending axially and radially throughout the separation chamber. Radial plates extending axially and radially throughout the separation chamber at least partially define the channels. A first and a second weir, each having a front face and a crest extending substantially annularly about the axis of rotation, are also included in the rotor. A fluid outlet passageway is also provided through which the second fluid may exit the separation chamber. The fluid outlet passageway comprises a plurality of channels configured to permit radially inward flow and prevent circumferential flow of the second fluid. These channels are at least partially defined by radial partitions which extend axially and radially within the fluid outlet passageway.

摘要: A device is provided for cleaning a surface by introducing a highly reactive gas mixture to the surface. The highly reactive gas mixture may include excited species such as ozone and relate excited ions, atoms, and electrons. The excited gas mixture then oxidizes undesirable materials on the surface. The device includes a structure which defines an enclosed space when placed against the surface to be cleaned. A set of one or more electrodes are positioned within the device such that an electrical discharge across the electrodes excites the selected gases species. The electrodes are attached to a power supply capable of generating a high frequency, high voltage discharge. A tube is provided for transporting selected gases, such as air or oxygen, to the enclosed space. Another tube is provide for removing reaction products from the enclosed space. This tube is place in communication with a source of suction for establishing a flow of gases into and out of the enclosed space.

摘要: The blast deflector may be used with a barrel and with a firearm. The blast deflector threads onto the end of a barrel of the type that has an outer tube and an inner tube defining a chamber thereinbetween. The blast deflector provides for a sealing connection between the outer tube and the inner tube. The blast deflector has a plurality of channels radially spaced around a central passage. Each of the channels is sized to define an axially aligned member that extends inwardly but is spaced away from the central passage to define a receiving chamber. The receiving chamber has length of about 2 to about 4 times the diameter of the projectile. The propellant gases enter the receiving chamber and are directed out through the transverse channels rearwardly which are formed at an angle of about 60.degree. relative to the axis of the central passage.

摘要: A wind powered device on a support structure is provided with a drive shaft mounted for rotation about its axis on the support structure and is coupled to an electric generator connected to a utility power grid.A rotor is mounted on the support structure and is adapted to drive the shaft, hence the electric generator. The rotor has at least one rotor blade. The rotor is mounted to drive the shaft and also for limited relative rotational movement with respect to the drive shaft about the axis of the drive shaft as the wind velocity driving the rotor changes. The coupling between the shaft and rotor responds to increases and decreases in rotor torque so that as imbalances between shaft torque and rotor torque arise, the rotor tends to run ahead of or behind the shaft. That causes rotation of the rotor relative to the drive shaft and the coupling means sense that change and automatically increase or decrease blade pitch via the automatically responsive mechanical coupling means to tend to bring shaft torque and rotor torque back into balance. Desirably the shaft is governed by a speed regulator, such as a generator connected to a utility power grid, so that it will rotate up to a predetermined speed or speeds beyond which shaft torque tends to increase sharply, so that if the speed of rotation of the rotor increases to a point at which it tends to exceed maximum permitted shaft torque, the blades are automatically increased in pitch which then decreases rotor speed, hence rotor torque.Several embodiments for automatically mechanically adjusting blade pitch in response to changes in rotor torque and imbalances in rotor and shaft torque are disclosed.

摘要: A machine for separation two liquids of different densities from a mixture has a separation chamber with radially disposed fins that rotates about a central axis. The separation chamber has an outside wall with a first weir extending toward the central axis and spaced from the central axis a distance or radius that is less than the distance of the boundary between the two fluids in the separation chamber. The mixture separates into a first volume of the first fluid and a second volume of the second fluid. The first fluid exits past the first weir. The second fluid passes into a channel or volume and then past a second weir. The channel or volume is sized so that the angular momentum of the second fluid is conserved and develops a force to retain the first fluid and the second fluid in the separation chamber. The separation chamber is in a housing which contains a first collecting chamber to collect the first fluid and a second collecting chamber to collect the second fluid. Other arrangements are available to remove gas entrained in the mixture and solids such as sludge entrained in the mixture.
