    摘要: An electrophoretic display device includes unit cells each containing i) two sets of display electrodes and a collection electrode and ii) two kinds of translucent colored electrophoretic particles having charge polarities different from each other. The unit cells are constructed so that the two display electrodes are superimposingly disposed to display the stated display color by the principle of subtractive mixture of color stimuli of the colored electrophoretic particles present on the display electrodes. Three unit cells are adjacently disposed in a same plane to form a pixel, and combinations of colors of the two kinds of translucent colored electrophoretic particles in each of the three unit cells forming the pixel are respectively one of the three primary colors and a color which provides black by subtractive mixture with one of the three primary colors.

    摘要: A liquid crystal device is constituted by a pair of substrates each having thereon an electrode and a uniaxial alignment film, and a chiral smectic liquid crystal disposed between the substrates. At least one of the uniaxial alignment films is a film comprising an electroconductive polymer doped with at least two species of dopants, which preferably include a first type dopant capable of dedoping into the liquid crystal due to electric field application or diffusion, and a second type dopant substantially incapable of dedoping into the liquid crystal. The resultant liquid crystal device is alleviated with respect to voltage hysteresis and is suitable for gradational display.

    摘要: An electrophoretic display device capable of realizing a stable memory characteristic without relying on a circuit-open state is provided. The electrophoretic display device has a cell structure including at least two electrodes, fixing surfaces each associated with one of the at least two electrodes an electrophoretic layer disposed in the cell and comprising an insulating liquid and colored charged particles disposed in the electrophoretic layer, and voltage application device for applying a voltage between the electrodes thereby causing migration of the colored charged particles toward and collective attachment onto one of the fixing surfaces; wherein the fixing surfaces are provided with a charged film having a constant surface charge of a polarity opposite to that of the colored charged particles, regardless of a polarity of electricity supplied to the associated electrodes.

    摘要: Spinnable balls each having two surfaces with different optical characteristics can be produced by forming a plurality of balls with the same specific gravity on a thermoplastic film, and softening the thermoplastic film by controlling a heating temperature thereof based on the specific gravity of the balls so that the hemispheres of the balls are embedded into the thermoplastic film by their own weight. A layer having different optical characteristics from those of the balls is then formed on the exposed surface of each ball. Finally, the balls provided with the layers are detached from the thermoplastic film.
