    摘要: Sulfonated reaction products formed from internal vinylidene olefins may display surfactant properties differing from those of the corresponding reaction products formed from sulfonation of alpha olefins and internal olefins having a like number of carbon atoms. Methods for sulfonating internal vinylidene olefins may comprise: providing an internal vinylidene olefin comprising a vinylidene group; exposing the internal vinylidene olefin to a sulfonating reagent; and reacting the sulfonating reagent with the internal vinylidene olefin to form a sulfonated reaction product comprising at least one sulfonated compound formed from the internal vinylidene olefin. Suitable sulfonation conditions may include sulfur trioxide as a sulfonating reagent under thin film or falling film conditions.

    摘要: Fused and unfused bicyclic rings are a convenient scaffold for synthesizing various compounds. Amphiphilic compounds constructed upon a fused or unfused bicyclic ring scaffold may exhibit surfactant properties differing from those of more conventional classes of surfactants. Such amphiphilic compounds may have a structure of formula (I), wherein A is an aromatic ring, a heteroaromatic ring, or a cycloaliphatic ring, each ring being defined by 5 to 10 ring atoms, B is an aromatic ring or a heteroaromatic ring, each ring being defined by 5 to 6 ring atoms, wherein at least one G is a hydrophobic moiety and at least one G is a hydrophilic moiety, and z is 0 or a positive integer ranging up to the number of ring atoms in each of A and B; and wherein the hydrophobic moiety comprises branched or unbranched C6 to C30 alkyl or alkenyl group, and the hydrophilic moiety comprises a polar functional group selected from the group consisting of quaternary ammonium, sulfonate, sulfate, carboxylate, phosphate, and ethoxylated.

    摘要: This disclosure relates to methods for production of aromatic esters useful as plasticizers without using esterification catalyst, to the aromatic esters, and to polymer compositions containing the aromatic esters. It also relates to producing aromatic polyesters without using esterification catalyst. The aromatic esters and polyesters can be produced catalyst-free by esterifying carboxylic acids with alcohol(s) at high temperature and high pressure, namely at a temperature from 100° C. to 350° C. and a pressure ≥100 psig, preferably ≥600 psig. The aromatic esters and polyesters can also be produced by esterifying without esterification catalyst carboxylic acids with methyl or ethyl alcohol, separating the resulting methyl or ethyl esters from the carboxylic acid and any byproduct impurities, and then transesterifying with or without esterification catalyst the methyl or ethyl esters with alcohols and/or diols.
