These groups are deposited by the covalent modification using diazonium salts of the general formula XC6H4N2+—Y, where X is the alkyl residual —C4H9, —C6H11, —C8H15, —C10H21, —C16H33, or C18H35, Y is the anion —HSO4, —Cl, —BF4 or —OTs. The invention provides an effective reduction of cholesterol and triglyceride presented in the blood plasma.

A process for the production of aromatics through the reforming of a hydrocarbon stream is presented. The process utilizes the differences in properties of components within the hydrocarbon stream to increase the energy efficiency. The differences in the reactions of different hydrocarbon components in the conversion to aromatics allows for different treatments of the different components to reduce the energy used in reforming process.

A catalyst for oxidative dehydrogenation of organic compounds is provided by forming a solution of catalyst precursor components comprised of Fe+3 and Zn+2 cations and at least one other modifier element cation in water to form an aqueous solution of the catalyst precursor components. The modifier element cation has a standard reduction potential of from greater than about −2.87 E° (V) to less than about −0.036 E° (V) with a valence of +2. A base is separately and simultaneously added to the aqueous solution in amounts to maintain the pH of the aqueous solution at a pH of from about 8.5 to about 9.5 as the catalyst precursor components. The catalyst precursor components are allowed to react and precipitate out of solution as a precipitate. The resulting precipitate is calcined to form a modified zinc ferrite catalyst compound.

The present invention provides a new metal-free cyclotrimerization reaction of alkynes to produce a 1,3,5-triacylarylene or 1,3,5-triacylbenzene. This reaction is catalyzed by secondary amines, is strictly regioselective, highly functionality-tolerant, and the resulting product can be obtained in high yields. This reaction can be further applied for the preparation of novel branched (co)polymers bearing the triacylarylenes as structural units. The preparation of the (co)polymers is carried out as a one-pot single-step reaction procedure, giving branched oligomers and polymers in high yields up to 90%. The produced (co)polymers are also processible, easily film-forming, and thermally stable.

The invention is directed to mixtures comprising C10-C13 alkylphenyl sulfonates having alkyl groups in a particular distribution (e.g., bimodal, peaked, and skewed). These C10-C13 alkylphenyl sulfonates are optionally renewable and unexpectedly provide superior results when used in consumer product cleaning and personal care compositions (e.g., dishcare, laundry, hard surface cleaners, shampoos, conditioners, and soaps). The invention is further directed to a method of making a mixture of partially or wholly renewable C10-C13 alkylphenyl sulfonates having a particular alkyl group distribution.
