Abstract: A method of controlling operation of a field-powered biometric device comprising biometric acquisition circuitry, processing circuitry controllable to transition between a first functional state having a first power consumption and a second functional state having a second power consumption lower than the first power consumption, and power management circuitry. The method comprises the steps of monitoring, by the power management circuitry, a property indicative of a supply voltage to the processing circuitry; controlling, when the monitored property indicates that the supply voltage has fallen to a first threshold voltage, the processing circuitry to transition from the first functional state to the second functional state; and controlling, when the monitored property indicates that the supply voltage has increased to a second threshold voltage higher than the first threshold voltage, the processing circuitry to transition from the second functional state to the first functional state.

The finger movement is then estimated using a sequence of first navigation images acquired using the first navigation subarea, and a sequence of second navigation images acquired using the second navigation subarea.

Abstract: A fingerprint-based navigation method using a finger navigation system comprising fingerprint sensing circuitry and navigation control circuitry. The method comprises the steps of: acquiring a series of navigation sequences of fingerprint images, and for each navigation sequence in the series of navigation sequences: determining an estimated momentary finger movement based on the navigation sequence of fingerprint images; determining at least one fingerprint image parameter value indicative of a fingerprint image status based on at least one fingerprint image in the navigation sequence of fingerprint images; and evaluating the fingerprint image status. The method further comprises the steps of determining a fingerprint sensing circuitry setting based on the evaluation; and providing the fingerprint sensing circuitry setting to the fingerprint sensing circuitry only during a time period between acquisition of a final fingerprint image in one navigation sequence and acquisition of a first fingerprint image in another, directly succeeding, navigation sequence.
