Abstract:
A method and system for detecting and controlling the quality of debarking at the surface of a wooden log provide information on main parameters related to the debarking quality of the log surface, including fiber loss and residual bark. The debarking quality detecting method and system involve measurement of three-dimensional profile of at least a portion of the log surface to generate corresponding profile image data, which is processed to generate data indicative of the texture of the log surface. The texture data is then analyzed to generate resulting data on the debarking quality parameters. That quality indicative information can be generated on a continuous basis to provide an objective assessment of the quality performance in real-time in view of target productivity, and may then be used to perform optimal adjustments of the debarker operating parameters, either manually by the operator or automatically through feedback control.
Abstract:
An approach is provided for performing multiple and hybrid forms of communication in the same communication session. A communication manager receives a to establish a communication session using a first form of communication, wherein the communication session supports multiple and simultaneous forms of communication. Next, the communication manager selects a second form of communication to conduct the communication session. Then, the communication manager transcodes the second form of communication to the first form of communication. The different forms can be converted to facilitate and enrich the communication capability, according to an embodiment of the invention.
Abstract:
A loudspeaker has an alarm and a luminous element, these being an improvement upon exiting loudspeakers having luminous elements. The luminous element is an illuminating lamp. A radiative cooling fin is mounted near the illuminating lamp. The use of radiator cooling firework permits a larger power light to be selected as the luminous element. This makes the loudspeaker capable of functioning as a substitute light source within an area. Also, the assembly employs an alarm with the loudspeaker. The brighter light emitted by the illuminating lamp on each loudspeaker provides better illumination. The lamp may also flash according to pre-programmed directions for the purpose of indicating a path and thereby helping people to escape from danger. Further, where the external power source fails, the loudspeaker assembly has a built-in emergency power source, ensuring that the loudspeaker and the illuminating lamp can still work normally.
Abstract:
A system and method for optimizing a process for refining lignocellulosic granular matter such as wood chips use a predictive model including a simulation model based on relations involving a plurality of matter properties characterizing the matter such as moisture content, density, light reflection or granular matter size, refining process operating parameters such as transfer screw speed, dilution flow, hydraulic pressure, plate gaps, or retention delays, at least one output controlled to a target such as primary motor load or pulp freeness, and at least one uncontrolled output such as specific energy consumption, energy split, long fibers, fines and shives. An adaptor is fed with measured values of matter properties and measured values of controlled and uncontrolled outputs, to adapt the simulation model accordingly. An optimizer generates a value of the target according to a predetermined condition on a predicted uncontrolled output parameter and to one or more process constraints.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for measuring size distribution of bulk matter consisted of randomly orientated granules, such as wood chips, make use of scanning the exposed surface of the granular matter to generate three-dimensional profile image data defined with respect to a three-coordinate reference system, The image data is segmented to reveal regions associated with distinct granules, and values of the size-related parameter for the revealed regions are estimated. Then, a geometric correction to each ones of estimated size-related parameter values is applied, to compensate for the random orientation of corresponding distinct granules. Finally, the size distribution of bulk matter is statistically estimated from the corrected size-related parameter values.
Abstract:
An approach is provided for determining a user age range. An age estimator causes, at least in part, acquisition of voice data. Next, the age estimator calculates a first set of probability values, wherein each of the probability values represents a probability that the voice data is in a respective one of a plurality of predefined age ranges, and the predefined age ranges are segments of a lifespan. Then, the age estimator derives a second set of probability values by applying a correlation matrix to the first set of probability values, wherein the correlation matrix associates the first set of probability values with probabilities of the voice data matching individual ages over the lifespan. Then, the age estimator, for each of the predefined age ranges, calculates a sum of the probabilities in the second set of probability values corresponding to the individual ages within the respective predefined age ranges. Further, the age estimator determines the predefined age range to associate with the voice data based, at least in part, on the calculated sums of the probabilities.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of gathering viewership statistics on viewers of mass media content and providing content based on identified characteristics of viewers. One embodiment includes a content distribution space, a content item, and an audience measurement system having a camera, and a processing unit. The audience measurement system can identify characteristics of viewers of an audience and gather statistics, including, but not limited to, how many views of the content item, how long each view is, and the number of opportunities to see (OTSs). The identified characteristics of the viewers of the audience can be used to identify a content item to present on the content distribution space.
Abstract:
A lamp system including a bulb assembly, a socket assembly, and a conductor base assembly is provided. The bulb assembly includes an insulation object, a first bulb pin, and a second bulb pin. The socket assembly includes an outer housing, a first conductive terminal, and a second conductive terminal. The outer housing includes an opening to install the bulb assembly. The conductor base assembly includes a conductor. The conductor base assembly is an element manufactured independently and should be placed within the socket assembly. When the bulb assembly is not installed in the socket assembly, the two ends of the conductor contact the conductive terminals, respectively. When the bulb assembly is installed in the socket assembly, the insulation object on the bottom of the bulb assembly insulates the terminals from the conductor. The conductive terminals contact the bulb pins, respectively.
