Abstract:
A computer system for publishing content includes a categorization member, a rating module, a user profiling assembly and a suggested-reading engine. The categorization member enables an author-user and reader-users of an authored work to categorize content of the authored work using a fixed taxonomy, keywords, tags and/or keyword combinations. The rating module enables reader-users to rate authored works and makes a determination of quality of each authored work in the system. Rating includes reader-user response activity such as number of times the reader recommends, forwards or otherwise effectively promotes the authored work. The user profiling assembly measures words and word combinations used (written or read) by a user and generates therefrom a profile of the user. The suggested-reading engine is responsive to the rating module and provides a ranked list of suggested reading (authored works) for a user. The suggested reading is based on the user's ratings of authored works, respective relevance of authored works to the user and editorial promotion of certain articles/authored works.
Abstract:
An encoder and decoder for generating and decoding convolutional codes of improved orthogonality. In an exemplary embodiment the encoder includes a K-bit length shift register for receiving an input serial stream of information bits and providing for each input bit a K-bit parallel output to a self-doubly orthogonal code sequence generator. The encoded symbol stream is threshold decoded iteratively using the inversion of the convolutional self-doubly orthogonal parity code generators.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed of orienting a container in a labeling system. The method includes the steps of: providing a plurality of containers on a conveyor wherein the containers and the conveyor are moving at a constant velocity VC; receiving a captured container of the plurality of containers between a first belt that is moving at a dynamic velocity VA and a second belt that is moving at a dynamic velocity VB, the first and second belts capturing opposing sides of a captured container while the captured container remains on the conveyor, wherein at the time of capturing the container between the first and second belts, VA, VB and VC are substantially equal to each other; applying a label to the container using the first and second belts by adjusting the velocities VA and VB; adjusting the orientation of the captured container by further adjusting the velocities VA and VB; and releasing the captured container from the first and second belts at the velocity VC on the conveyor, wherein at the time of releasing the container from between the first and second belts, VA, VB and VC are substantially equal to each other.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is disclosed for performing a multi-equalization of a transmitted signal on a channel having varying characteristics comprising equalizing the transmitted signal using a plurality of setting defining a plurality of equalizing functions to provide a corresponding plurality of symbol signal, synchronizing each of the plurality of symbol signals to provide a plurality of synchronized signals, selecting at least one of the plurality of synchronized signals according to at least one transmission performance criterion and providing the selected one of the plurality of synchronized signals.
Abstract:
A clothes dryer exhaust vent comprises a vent hood and a detachable grill. The detachable grill fits within the vent hood opening. A snap-fit system is provided which allows one to grasp the exposed edges of the grill, squeeze inwardly and readily disengage the grill from the vent hood. This system avoids having to unscrew the grill, remove the clips or the like to provide for grill service.
Abstract:
An inflatable platform that is utilized on the ocean or other bodies of water for relaxation, entertainment, or other recreational purposes includes two floating bodies. The larger floating body has a recess with a mesh panel so the user may access water filtered by the mesh panel while relaxing on the larger floating body. The user may place the smaller floating body next to the larger floating body to create more space for another user or may put the smaller floating body into the recess and use the present invention as a swim platform, tanning deck, or other recreational purpose.
Abstract:
The present invention is relates to the production of electricity by the integration of a network of kinetic energy sources. The purpose of the propose embodiments is to convert a plurality of energy sources of different potential to one hydraulic source that will be leveled by hydraulic compensator. The objective is to offer a stable electricity source. All the incoming fluids are joint in a unique energy flow prior to the hydraulic motors that gone to drive the generators. The incoming fluid is regulate at constant pressure and flow to the hydraulic motor, the incoming variation of flow and pressure is regulate by and hydraulic compensator. The generator is drive by a network of hydraulic motors that can supply many levels of power with the same rotation speed. The rotation of the main shaft that joint the hydraulic motors and the electric generator is keep constant by a flywheel equip with an electronic micro break. The electricity production is done by a network of generator that will deliver to the grid a synchronize current with fix voltage.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) and to use of the VCO in a high-temperature sensor transceiver. The VCO has a voltage input and a frequency of oscillation dependent on the voltage input. The VCO includes a transistor providing a gain allowing for a sustained oscillation. The transistor also has a capacitance that varies as a function of the voltage input. The high-temperature sensor includes a high-temperature sensor operatively coupled to the VCO for wireless transmission of an output signal of the sensor.
Abstract:
A self-contained insulated container for maintaining an item at a predetermined temperature. The container has an inner sidewall and an outer sidewall, which are spaced apart from each other and closed off to define an insulating chamber therebetween. The container includes a storage area, for receiving the item therein, which is defined by the inner sidewall. The storage area is at a first storage temperature. The insulating chamber is substantially filled with a first insulating material, which is a gel mixture. The first insulating material is at a first insulating temperature. The storage area attains a second storage temperature after the item is placed therein and the first insulating material maintains the second storage temperature and the item at the predetermined temperature for a storage period.
Abstract:
There is described a system for measuring energy consumption of individual electrical devices amongst a plurality of electrical devices. The system is adapted to determine in real time energy consumption while reducing its own consumption of energy by adjusting a transmission rate to between status sensing devices and a consumption evaluation device. The transmission rate is adjusted as a function of learned energy consumption habits and/or consumption characteristics of individual electrical devices.
