A method may include transmitting an information message related to a first network node implementing broadcasting-and-extracting mode to a neighboring network node implementing collecting-and-broadcasting mode during a first time interval. The method may further include receiving a collective information message package from the neighboring network node during a second time interval. The collective information message package may include one or more information messages received by the neighboring network node during the first time interval and an information message related to the neighboring network node. Structure of a multi-carrier flexible spectrum wireless cell is determined from received synchronization or broadcast channels of detected individual carriers. The determined structure is used to select an intended carrier for initial access or cell reselection to the flexible spectrum wireless cell. The structure may have carriers compatible with an earlier version (LTE/Release 8) of a communication standard and with a later version (LTE-A/Release 9). The received synchronization channels can inform of: relative positions of the individual carriers in a spectrum band of the multi-carrier structure; relative timing alignments of the received synchronization channels; contents of the received synchronization channels; and/or layer 1 cell-carrier identifiers. The synchronization channels may have a different structure as between the earlier and later versions, and the different structure is used to select the carrier that is compatible with the user equipment making the selection.

A network sends to a user equipment UE a reference signal configuration, and from receiving it the UE selects a codeword identifying a cooperative multipoint CoMP transmission scheme. There is a CoMP scheme selection codebook from which the UE selects the codeword corresponding to its recommended CoMP scheme. The UE sends to the network that codeword which identifies the CoMP transmission scheme, along with the CSI feedback characterizing the CoMP transmission scheme. From that codeword which the network receives it determines the UE's assumed CoMP transmission scheme, which the network uses to determine how the CSI feedback, received from the UE, was calculated by the UE (for example, joint transmission, or dynamic point selection with or without muting, or coordinating scheduling/beamforming). The network uses this information for selecting a CoMP transmission scheme for downlink CoMP transmissions to the UE.

Information on the joint precoder is reported to a network node over an uplink transmission channel.

There is provided a mechanism providing a flexible feedback framework operating in different scenarios, such as heterogeneous network deployments. Antenna information are sent from a scheduler element to a UE, the antenna information including information indicating a grouping of one or more antenna in closely spaced antenna groups of one or more transmit points. The UE selects at least one of precoding codewords and amplitude weight parameters for each closely spaced antenna group, and determines information related to a sub-band precoder and a transmit point related combiner. The processing results are indicated to the scheduler by means of sending indices related to a wide-band long-term precoder and a sub-band short-term precoder. The scheduler processes these results for determining a joint precoder.
