摘要: In an image-data processing system, as would be found in a digital copier or scanner, a relatively quick calculation is performed to estimate a compression ratio or compression time resulting from applying a compression algorithm to an image data set. If the estimated compression ratio or compression time is determined to be unfavorable, the system is advised not to apply the compression algorithm. The method can also be used to select a type of compression algorithm, such as CCITT G4 or JBIG2, according to the requirements of the larger system.

摘要: Methods and systems for assessing the environmental impact of one or more processing devices, such one or more printers, are disclosed. The system queries a life cycle assessment (LCA) service to receive a life cycle phase model for each device. The life cycle phase model includes a set of consumption variable categories associated with potential device usage during a life cycle phase. The system then receives consumption data for the device, identifies a portion of the consumption data that corresponds to the consumption variable categories in the model, and obtains an assessment of environmental impact of the device during the life cycle phase based on the consumption data.

摘要: Systems and methods receive user feedback during user interaction with at least one printing apparatus to record user annoyance measurements for one or more users into memory of at least one computerized device. The systems and methods automatically calculate one or more user annoyance curves for the users from the user annoyance measurements. The annoyance curves relate to one or more performance characteristics of the printing apparatus. The systems and methods automatically select a specific annoyance curve from the annoyance curves depending upon which of the users is utilizing the printing apparatus. The systems and methods automatically determine a performance characteristic level for the printing apparatus that will maintain user annoyance below a predetermined standard for each of the users using the specific annoyance curve for each user. The systems and methods automatically set components of the printing apparatus to operate so as to achieve the identified performance characteristic level.

摘要: A method and apparatus of rendering object oriented image data into a frame buffer of an imaging device using a set of rendering state information is provided. Object oriented image data is read into the imaging device together with an imaging operator associated with the object oriented image data. The object type of the imaging operator is determined. Based on the object type of the imaging operator, a set of rendering state information is selected from a plurality of sets of rendering state information stored beforehand in the imaging device. Using the rendering state information, the imaging device renders the object oriented image data into a frame buffer of the imaging device for ready display. Each different object type encountered by the imaging device, a renderstate pointer is loaded with index information so that an appropriate one of the plurality of sets of rendering state information can be quickly and easily accessed for integration into the current graphic state information set for rendering differing object types on the fly.

摘要: An embodiment generally relates to systems and methods for electronically auto-filing and retrieving erasable paper document documents configured for ultraviolet (UV) imaging. A device can embed a machine readable code on an erasable paper document, or can detect a machine readable code preprinted on the document. An electronic version of the erasable paper document along with the machine readable code can be stored in a database. When the machine readable code is later detected on a rendered document, the electronic version corresponding to the machine readable code can be retrieved from storage. The erasable paper document can be re-rendered using the retrieved electronic version either as a new erasable paper document, for display to the user, or other renderings.

摘要: A method and programmable gray scale halftoner with object oriented resolution capability apparatus are provided for selecting a resolution and gray level range to deliver halftone value data to an associated laser output device. The apparatus includes an input buffer adapted to receive a first group of n pixel data values, each having a resolution object tag associated therewith. A mapping circuit maps the first group of pixel data values to a first one of a plurality of resolution object tags. A first configurable gray scale halftone generator is adapted to generate n halftone values in a range of from 0-8 Bit Gray level modes, each of the n halftone values being associated with a single pixel data value among the first group of pixel data values. Second and third configurable gray scale halftone generators are each respectively adapted to generate n/2 and a single halftone value in a range of from 0-8 Bit Gray level modes. The single halftone value is an average pixel data value among the first group of pixel data values and the n/2 halftone values are multiple average values. A select circuit selects one of the halftone values from the set of gray scale halftone generators based on the first one of the plurality of resolution settings. An output signal line delivers the selected halftone value for use by an associated laser output device.

摘要: A system for reducing toner or ink consumption in rendering images, in which a transfer function is used to modify screening of the image to be rendered. Rendering systems including the use of single or multiple colors can employ the present invention. An algorithm is used in the present system to read in an arbitrary halftone dot and for each pixel in the halftone cell the output is a replicate of the threshold, Ta or Tb, surrounded by three pixels of white thresholds, a smooth transition from white to the now reduced maximum area coverage (such as 25%), while creating or maintaining the appearance of image uniformity at this reduced maximum area coverage.
