Abstract:
A laminate structure having improved resistance to delamination because of enhanced interaction between the laminae and binder. The basic unit of this structure is a lamina which is initially coated or impregnated with a surface-active block copolymer and then coated or impregnated with a binder or base polymer. The clock copolymer contains a polymerized comonomer component which is compatible with the binder or base polymer thereby bonding it to the block copolymer, and a polymerized comonomer component which is sufficiently surface-active that the block copolymer wets and adheres to the lamina.
Abstract:
Random alternating organopolysiloxane-polycarbonate block polymers can be crystallized by contacting the block polymer with a methylalkylketone in the vapor or liquid state. The resulting crystallized organopolysiloxane-polycarbonate block polymers exhibit improved physical characteristics, such as tensile strength (psi) and improved resistance to distortion at elevated temperature. The crystallized organopolysiloxane-polycarbonate block polymers can be employed as dielectrics and as permselective membranes for separating gases and vapors.
Abstract:
A POLYMER-FILLER COMPOSITION HAVING IMPROVED PROPERTIES COMPRISED OF A BASE POLYMER, A FILLER AND A SURFACEACTIVE ADDITIVE WHICH IS A BLOCK COPOLYMER. THE BLOCK COPOLYMER ADDITIVE CONTAINS AT LEAST TWO POLYMERIZED COMONOMERS, ONE OF WHICH IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE BASE POLYMER THEREBY IMPARTING STABILITY TO THE COMPOSITION, AND THE SECOND OF WHICH IS SURFACE-ACTIVE IN THE COMPOSITION SO THAT THE BLOCK COPOLYMER IS CONCENTRATED AT THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE FILLER AND BASE POLYMER TO PROVIDE A BOND THEREBETWEEN.
Abstract:
A polymer composition having desirable bulk and surface properties comprised of a base polymer and a surface-modifying additive which is a block copolymer. The block copolymer additive contains at least two polymerized comonomers, one of which is compatible with the base polymer and serves to distribute the additive therein, and the second of which is sufficiently surface-active in the base polymer to impart or modify a surface property thereof.
Abstract:
A dielectric solution with good wetting properties is disclosed as well as a dielectric material comprised of a polyolefin impregnated with the dielectric solution. The solution is comprised of a dielectric liquid and a block copolymer additive which is surface-active therein. The block copolymer is comprised of at least two polymerized comonomers, one of which is soluble in the dielectric liquid thereby distributing the block copolymer therein, and the second of which is sufficiently surface-active in the solution to produce a solution having a surface tension less than that of the dielectric liquid alone.
