Abstract: A method of repairing an oxidized defect in a superalloy article includes removing substantially all of the oxidized defect to form a cleaned out portion of the superalloy article; filling a portion of the cleaned out portion with a weld by fusion welding; cracking the weld; and filling the cracked weld and a remaining portion of the cleaned out portion with a braze material.

Abstract: An article comprising a substrate, the substrate having a surface; a diffusion barrier layer disposed on a portion of the surface of the substrate, a brazing layer disposed on the diffusion barrier layer, the brazing layer comprising at least one diffusible element, wherein the diffusion barrier layer inhibits the at least one diffusible element from diffusing into the diffusion barrier layer and the substrate. Also provided herein is a method of making an article comprising providing a substrate, the substrate having a surface; forming a diffusion barrier layer on a portion of the surface of the substrate, the diffusion barrier layer being formed by electro-spark deposition; forming a brazing layer on the diffusion barrier layer, the brazing layer comprising at least one diffusible element, wherein the diffusion barrier layer inhibits the at least one diffusible element from diffusing into the substrate.

Abstract: A method of brazing a treatment area of a load-bearing component includes applying a repair material over the treatment area of the component and positioning an induction brazing coil having a geometry corresponding to the treatment area over the repair material and the treatment area. The method further includes heating the repair material utilizing the induction brazing coil to a temperature sufficient to cause at least partial melting of the repair material, thereby effecting a brazed joint between the treatment area and the repair material.

Abstract: A method for modifying an aperture in a component, a system for modifying flow through a component, and a turbine component are disclosed. The method includes providing a substrate having at least one aperture having an electrically-conductive surface, providing a deposition device including an ESD torch, the ESD torch including an aperture penetrating electrode including a conductive material, inserting the aperture penetrating electrode at least partially into the aperture, and generating an arc between the aperture penetrating electrode and the electrically-conductive surface to deposit electrode material within the aperture. The system includes the ESD torch removably supported in an electrode holder. The turbine component includes at least one aperture having an electrospark deposited material along an electrically-conductive surface, the electrospark deposited material providing modified fluid flow through the turbine component.
