Abstract: A pump assembly and a propulsion system that utilizes the pump assembly includes a casing defining an opening. The pump assembly also includes a first member at least partially disposed in the opening. The first member is movable linearly relative to the opening. The pump assembly further includes a biasing member disposed in the opening. The biasing member is movable independently of the first member. The first member is movable in a first direction that applies a load to the biasing member which creates a torque on the biasing member. The pump assembly also includes a second member that separates the first member and the biasing member such that the torque on the biasing member is transferred to the second member without transferring the torque to the first member when the first member applies the load to the biasing member.

Abstract: A method and system for operating an internal combustion engine equipped with a turbocharger and an exhaust gas recirculation pipe fluidly connecting an exhaust gas line to an air intake duct upstream of a compressor of the turbocharger is disclosed. A value of a parameter indicative of a temperature of an exhaust gas is determined, and an internal recirculation strategy of the exhaust gas is actuated if the determined value is lower than a predetermined threshold value thereof. The internal recirculation strategy includes interrupting a flowing of exhaust gas through the exhaust gas recirculation pipe, and opening an exhaust valve during an intake stroke of a piston of the internal combustion engine.

Abstract: A roller tappet for a fuel unit pump of an internal combustion engine is provided with a roller tappet bore for inserting the roller tappet within the internal combustion engine. The roller tappet includes a roller tappet body having a body longitudinal axis for connecting the roller tappet to a reciprocating element of the fuel unit pump. A cam roller contacts a cam lobe of a rotatable shaft of the internal combustion engine. The cam roller is rotatably mounted to the roller tappet body around a cam roller rotation axis. The external surface of the roller tappet body is configured to allow tilting of the roller tappet within the roller tappet bore for aligning the roller tappet with respect to the cam lobe of the rotatable shaft.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a cam shifting system having a shifting unit rotatably fixed and axially moveable with respect to a camshaft. The shifting unit includes at least two cams configured to be selectively brought in contact with a cam follower and provided with a base circle and with at least one cam lobe. The shifting unit is provided with at least one groove having a shifting portion. A driving pin is operable to be selectively engaged with and disengaged from the shifting portion of the groove. Engagement between the driving pin and the shifting portion of the groove moves the shifting unit with respect to the camshaft. During the movement of the shifting unit the cam follower engages at least a portion of at least one cam lobe.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a variable valvetrain system for improving the range of controllability of the internal EGR technique adjusts the internal EGR lift in a more favorable window and position compared to the internal EGR window typically utilized. In particular, a combined change of lift, phase and duration of the internal EGR lift of the exhaust vale improves the controllability and stability of the desired amount of internal EGR. The present system achieves a high internal EGR capability at low loads and lower back pressure. The system also achieves controllability of internal EGR at high loads without requiring ultra low lifts. The system also allows warm-up of the exhaust after treatment system faster for higher conversion efficiency, reduced HC and NOx engine-out emissions and increased combustion stability.
