Abstract:
An internal combustion engine includes an aftertreatment device, an injector for injecting fuel into a cylinder and an Electronic Control Unit configured to perform a regeneration process of the aftertreatment device. The regeneration process includes determining a nominal fuel quantity to be injected by an after-injection; monitoring a temperature value of the aftertreatment device; determining a fuel quantity correction value, as a function of a difference between the monitored temperature value and a target temperature value of the aftertreatment device; correcting the nominal fuel quantity value, using the fuel quantity correction value, in order to determine a corrected fuel quantity value; performing a fuel injection cycle including a plurality of after-injections; and injecting the corrected fuel quantity value into the cylinder during one of the after-injections of the cycle.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is provided for regenerating an after-treatment device associated with an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. A lambda error control provides a lambda error signal based upon a measured lambda value and a predetermined lambda value indicative of rich operation. An after-injection map provides an after-injection preset based upon a speed and a torque of the internal combustion engine. A main injection map provides a torque-making main injection preset based upon the speed of the internal combustion engine and the torque of the internal combustion engine. A controller is configured to provide an after-injection quantity signal based upon the after-injection preset, the lambda error signal and a main injection quantity signal based upon the main injection preset and the lambda error signal such that the measured lambda value is maintained within a regeneration range.
Abstract:
A method of operating an internal combustion engine is described, which includes executing a warm up strategy of an engine aftertreatment system, wherein the warm up strategy includes injecting fuel into the engine according to a multi-injection pattern having at least one after injection.
Abstract:
A method of operating a fuel injector of an internal combustion engine having a reciprocating piston includes performing a multi after-injection pattern having at least one pair of consecutive injection pulses both starting after a top dead center of the piston and separated by a dwell time shorter than 200 as.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for regenerating a Lean NOx Trap in an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The internal combustion engine includes a Lean NOx Trap, a turbocharger having a turbine. An electronic control unit is configured to execute a regeneration event of the Lean NOx Trap, and regulate a position of an actuator affecting a rotating speed of the turbine using a closed-loop control strategy of an air pressure into an intake duct downstream of a compressor of the turbocharger and upstream of a throttle valve during the execution of the regeneration event.
