Abstract: An exhaust system includes a light-off catalyst, an exhaust system component, and at least one H2O trap. The exhaust system component is upstream from the light-off catalyst and includes catalyst material, the catalyst material configured to store hydrocarbons during a period when the light-off catalyst is warming up to a light-off temperature. The at least one H2O trap is at or upstream from the exhaust system component and is configured to perform H2O adsorption and desorption to increase a length of time for the exhaust system component to reach a hydrocarbon release temperature and prevent the exhaust system component from reaching the hydrocarbon release temperature prior to the light-off catalyst reaching the light-off temperature.

Abstract: A cathode for use in a lithium ion battery includes an active material present in an amount of from 70 to 99 weight percent, wherein the active material includes a lithium rich nickel manganese oxide; a conductive network of a mixture of conductive elements present in an amount of from 0.25 to 20 weight percent, wherein the mixture of conductive elements includes two or more of low aspect ratio particles, plate-like particles, and needle-like particles; and a binder system present in an amount of from 0.25 to 10 weight percent, wherein the binder system includes a primary binder polymer and an acid group or a salt thereof, wherein the amounts are based on a total weight of the cathode.

Abstract: A three-way catalyst for reduced palladium loading is provided. The catalyst includes an inert substrate and a palladium catalyst material coating the substrate. The palladium catalyst material includes a support material formed from one of 10% CeO2/Al2O3, 20% CeO2—Al2O3 (20CeAlOy), 30% CeO2—Al2O3 (30CeAlOy), Al2O3, and MOx-Al2O3, wherein M is one of copper, iron, manganese, titanium, zirconium, magnesium, strontium, and barium. The palladium catalyst material includes a layer of CeO2 material disposed upon the support material, wherein the layer of CeO2 material is dispersed on a surface of the support material. The palladium catalyst material includes an active component including a layer of praseodymium oxide particles dispersed across the surface of the layer of CeO2 material and a layer of palladium particles disposed upon and dispersed across the surface of the layer of CeO2 material at locations each corresponding to a respective location of each of the praseodymium particles.

Abstract: An exhaust gas treatment system including: an internal combustion engine comprising an exhaust gas outlet; a first three way catalyst downstream of the exhaust gas outlet, wherein the first three way catalyst receives an exhaust output from the exhaust gas outlet; a hydrocarbon trap downstream of the first three way catalyst, wherein the hydrocarbon trap receives an exhaust output from the first three way catalyst; an exhaust heating unit downstream of the hydrocarbon trap, wherein the exhaust heating unit receives an exhaust output from the hydrocarbon trap; and a second three way catalyst downstream of the exhaust heating unit, wherein the second three way catalyst receives an exhaust output from the heating unit, wherein an air injection port is configured to selectively deliver a stream of air upstream of the hydrocarbon trap and downstream of the first three way catalyst.

The catalyst support includes an alumina substrate, a first ceria layer disposed on and extending substantially continuously over the alumina substrate, and a second colloidal ceria layer formed directly on the first ceria layer over the alumina substrate. The palladium catalyst layer is formed on the exterior surface of the catalyst support by applying a palladium-containing precursor solution to the exterior surface of the catalyst support and then heating the catalyst support and the palladium-containing precursor solution. The palladium-containing precursor solution includes a positively charged palladium complex in an aqueous medium and has a pH greater than a point of zero charge of the second colloidal ceria layer.
