摘要: A system is disclosed for eliminating error in teletext signals caused by the presence of noise accompanying the teletext signals. The system includes: (1) a teletext packet buffer which receives the teletext signal and transfers the teletext signals to a teletext decoder in the absence of noise accompanying the teletext signals; (2) a timing circuit which produces timing signals from television synchronous signals; (3) a control circuit which controls the teletext packet buffer in response to the timing signals; and (4) a noise detector which detects whether noise is present in the teletext signal and disables the teletext packet buffer to prevent the transfer of the teletext signal from the teletext packet buffer to the teletext decoder if the teletext signal was received in the presence of noise.

摘要: A method and device for receiving and storing an electronic television (TV) program guide. In a satellite, cable or broadcast TV system, electronic TV program guides may be coded into the video signals received by the TV receiver. Many currently available TV receivers also allow users to program a list of "select-channels." When the receiver is in its select-channel mode, the receiver only tunes to the channels the user stored in the list of select channels. The present invention limits the memory and processing power required to store an electronic TV program guide by only storing program guide information associated with the channels stored by the user in connection with the select-channels function of the receiver. In receivers having a second tuner, the second tuner may be used to automatically update the stored program guide.

摘要: A digital subsystem for improving the resolution of a TV digital signal by inserting additional digital samples into the digital TV signal in response to the correspondence of the digital signal and predefined patterns. The digital subsystem is a logic circuit which is responsive to received digital samples to group these digital samples into sets of samples. The digital circuit then calculates the slope between pairs of digital samples of each set and utilizes the calculated slopes to determine the correspondence to the predefined patterns. The determined predefined pattern designates the digital sample to be inserted into each set. The inserted digital sample is either equal to one of the digital samples or the average between two of the digital samples of each set. The calculation of the slopes results in a logical "0" for a constant slope and a logical "1" for a negative or a positive slope. An Exclusive OR gate is utilized to make the determination of whether to use a value equal to one of the digital samples of the set or the average of the value of two of the digital samples. A slope is considered constant if the difference between the pair of digital samples is less than a value calculated from range information of the set of samples.

摘要: A digital to analog converter utilizes a digital missing pulse detector as a time interval measuring means in which the detector includes a programmable counter, the count of which is set to correspond with the digital number or word to be converted. Clock pulses at a high frequency are applied to advance the programmable counter from a reset condition to a terminal or output condition, and the time interval produced depends upon the binary word or number set into the programmable counter. Pulses at a second lower frequency, equal to the repetition rate of the system, are applied to the input of the time interval measuring circuit; so that the output is a series of pulse width modulated pulses having a duty cycle corresponding to the binary word originally set into the programmable counter. A low pass filter is connected to the output of the time interval measuring circuit and provides an analog output signal at a voltage level corresponding to the binary number or word originally set into the programmable counter.

摘要: An automatic hue control system operates to correct the phase of the color subcarrier reference signal used to operate the demodulators of a color television receiver. A regenerated color subcarrier signal at the phase of the I axis or the axis of flesh color is fed to one input of a phase comparator. The amplitude limited chrominance signal is fed to another input of the phase comparator, the output of which is used to operate a single pole double throw switch circuit. The switch passes the regenerated subcarrier signal to the demodulators when the phase difference between the limited chrominance and the regenerated subcarrier signals is outside a predetermined angle on each side of the I or flesh axis. Whenever the phase relationship between the limited chrominance signal and the subcarrier reference signal places the two signals within the predetermined angle on each side of the I or flesh axis, the switch circuit passes the limited chrominance signal to the demodulators as the color subcarrier reference signal.

摘要: A television tuning system employs a frequency synthesizer system for establishing the tuning of the receiver. A first programmable frequency divider controlled by a reversible counter is connected between the output of a reference oscillator and a phase comparator to which the output of the local oscillator, after passing through another programmable frequency divider, also is applied. The phase comparator output is a tuning voltage used to control the tuning of the local oscillator. A logic circuit is coupled to sense predetermined relationships of signals from a picture carrier detector, a sound carrier detector, an AFT signal, and the presence of vertical synchronization signal components for changing the count in the reversible binary counter to adjust the first programmable frequency divider to compensate for channel frequency offsets which may occur in excess of the pull-in range of the AFT circuit. To enable operation of the receiver in a fringe area, where it may be desirable to intentionally mistune a channel slightly, manual fine tuning control logic circuitry is employed to disable the frequency offset logic circuit and to permit changing the count of the reversible counter by the viewer to manually fine tune the receiver as desired.

摘要: A method and devices for dynamically embedding watermark and/or end-user access information into multimedia content. The method includes providing multimedia content transformed into blocks that each include an array of pixel blocks, and dynamically embedding portions of watermark and/or end-user access information into selected pixel blocks based on the values of the coefficients within the pixel blocks. For multimedia content encoded using discrete cosine transform (DCT) or other block-based encoding, the transform coefficients to include embedded information are chosen based on analysis of the coefficient values, rather than in a fixed or predetermined manner. Also, embedding watermark and/or end-user access information can occur across different pixel blocks within a given image to reduce the number of embedded coefficients per block, within the peripheral pixel blocks within a given image, and/or in different areas across images to reduce the duration of embedded information in any one area.

摘要: A television (TV) system having provision for automatically compensating for signal distortion which would cause artifacts at the point where high- and low-resolution portions of an extended aspect ratio, high-definition TV display are joined together. Compensation parameters are calculated at the TV receiver in response to a known test pattern transmitted during the vertical retrace interval of the TV display and then accessed and utilized to compensate received active display signals. The compensation parameters are calculated by first converting Y, I, and Q signals for the test pattern into digital samples and then processing these digital samples in a digital signal processor unit. After the compensation parameters have been calculated by the digital signal processor, they are stored in a memory. The received active display signals are compensated by accessing the stored compensation parameters during the active display time. Each accessed compensation parameter is converted to an analog signal and is multiplied with received Y, I, and Q edge signals and combined with the center signals to compensate for distortions. In addition, the stored parameters are also averaged over a period of time to stop transient conditions from affecting the stored value of a compensation parameter.
