摘要:
Biodegradable terephthalate polymers are described comprising the recurring monomeric units shown in formula I: wherein R is a divalent organic moiety; R′ is an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic residue; x is ≧1; and n is 0-5,000, wherein the biodegradable polymer is biocompatible before and upon biodegradation. Processes for preparing the polymers, compositions containing the polymers and biologically active substances, articles useful for implantation or injection into the body fabricated from the compositions, and methods for controllably releasing biologically active substances using the polymers, are also described.

A non-abusable, non-inflammatory, biocompatible, non-biodegradable, subcutaneous, polymeric implant for the prolonged, controlled release of hydromorphone with near zero-order kinetics is described. Methods of alleviating cancer pain and treating opioid drug addiction with the implant are also described.

A structurally rigid biodegradable foam scaffold useful for cell transplantation is provided. The foam can be loaded with nutrients and/or drugs that elute from the foam during transplant to promote growth of the cells. The foam, which features a continuous network of pores, is fabricated using a novel method involving phase separation and consequent expansion upon sublimation of a liquid solvent, preferably naphthalene.

The invention includes compositions for inhibiting cellular adhesion, methods of preparation of such compositions, and methods for preventing cell adhesion at a surgical site comprising application of such compositions. The compositions generally comprise a cellular adhesion inhibitory agent, such as dextran sulfate, and a crosslinked hydrogel matrix, preferentially physically entrapping the adhesion inhibitory agent. The hydrogel matrix can include a first gel component, such as an electrophilically functionalized polyethylene glycol polymer, and at least one additional gel component, preferably nucleophilically functionalized, and preferentially selected from the group consisting of polyethylene glycol polymers, polypeptides, and polysaccharides. The compositions are useful for delivering the cellular adhesion inhibitory agent to a site in need of adhesion inhibition and providing either immediate or metered delivery of the inhibitory agent.

This invention is generally directed to methods and materials for connective tissue repair. The invention is more specifically related to methods and materials for the repair of tendons and ligaments, especially in the hand. Methods and materials for rotator cuff repair are also disclosed. The use of extraoperatively obtained scaffolding matrices is promoted when reapproximating the connective tissue.

摘要:
Methods for tendon and ligament repair using a scaffolding matrix material. The scaffolding matrix material is an off-the-shelf organic dermis from an unknown source which has been extra-operatively prepared so as to be devoid of viable cells which normally express antigens, and to promote natural healing of soft tissue via revascularization and repopulation. The scaffolding matrix material is used to join ruptured tendons or ligaments together and to join ligaments to bone.
