Abstract: A journal bearing for a gear driven pump includes a bearing body having a bearing body circular opening that defines a bearing surface along a length of the bearing body and a face plate adjacent to the bearing surface. The bearing surface is configured to carry a gear shaft load through a hydrodynamic fluid film pressure between a load surface of a gear shaft and the bearing surface. The bearing surface is formed from a leaded bronze material and the face plate is formed from a copper-nickel alloy.

Abstract: A variable displacement piston pump, having: a housing, a pivot assembly to pivot between minimal and maximum pivot angles; a pump cover defining an actuator bore with an actuator piston, an actuator arm extending from the actuator piston to the pivot assembly; and an electronic control unit (ECU) coupled to the pump, the ECU having: a pump controller, a linear variable differential transducer (LVDT) coupled to the pump controller and the actuator piston, and an electrohydraulic solenoid valve (EHSV) coupled to the pump controller, the ECU is configured to: determine a pivot differential for the pivot assembly between a target pivot angle and a current pivot angle; determine a position differential for the actuator piston, corresponding to the pivot differential of the pivot assembly; control the EHSV to move the actuator piston by the position differential; and determine, from the LVDT, that the actuator piston moved by the position differential.

Abstract: A gear pump includes gears received within a housing defining an inlet, an outlet and end plates. The gears have shaft portions on each of two sides of each of the two gears. The shaft portions are mounted in journal bearings. The journal bearings each have a gear side face adjacent one of the two gears. A remote face is on a remote side of the journal bearing remote from each of the two gears. There is a plurality of heat pipes in at least one of the journal bearings. The heat pipes move heat from the gear face of the at least one of the journal bearings to the remote face. The plurality of heat pipes is enclosed by the housing, and extend generally in an axial direction from an end adjacent the gear face to an end adjacent the remote face. A fuel supply system is also disclosed.
