    摘要: A low deviation pressure relief valve for a fuel pump consisting of a housing having an elongated bore having a continuous wall, an axis, shoulders arranged on the wall so as to extend toward the axis. A ball in the housing has a diameter at least less than the diameter of the bore and a ball retainer located in the bore upstream from the shoulders forms a ball seat by pre-coining process. The ball is smaller than the retainer seat in diameter to ensure an edge seal with the ball. A spring coaxial with the axis located down stream from the ball retainer and supported on the shoulders, and the ball is located between the spring and the ball seat wherein low flow restriction is created and reduced pressure variation is created as fluid flows past the ball and less buckling in the spring is created by guide ribs.

    摘要: The present invention provides a system for controlling speed of the fuel pump. The system includes a fuel pump, a controller, and a field modification module. The fuel pump is configured to receive a driving signal causing the fuel pump to pump fuel. The controller is configured to determine a desired fuel pump speed and generate a control signal based on the desired fuel pump speed. The field modification module is located proximate the fuel pump and is in communication with the controller to receive the control signal. The field modification module generates a flux in response the control signal thereby controlling speed and torque of the fuel pump.

The pressure regulating valve includes a conduit in fluid communication with the pump outlet. The valve includes a valve seat and a valve body having a frustoconical seal surface. A spring biases the valve body to close the valve body against the valve seat. During operation, increased fuel pressure from the pump opens the valve body to discharge excess fuel to the fuel supply.

    摘要: A mechanical returnless fuel system comprises a fuel pump having an output for supplying fuel to fuel injectors of an automotive engine. The fuel system includes a pressure regulating valve that returns a portion of the pump output in excess of engine fuel usage to the fuel supply. The pressure regulating valve results in a fuel pressure that varies as a function of engine fuel demand. During operation, a controller determines a projected engine fuel demand, then determines an estimated fuel pressure based upon the projected engine fuel demand. The controller utilizes the estimated fuel pressure to provide a more accurate calculation of the opening time for the fuel injectors and thereby improve engine control.

    摘要: An impeller for a fuel pump for supplying fuel to an automotive engine from a fuel tank includes an impeller body having a substantially disk shape with opposing first and second faces and an outer circumference. The impeller body defines a rotational axis extending therethrough perpendicular to the first and second faces. A plurality of radially outwardly extending vanes extend from the outer circumference of the impeller body and are spaced circumferentially about the impeller body. Each of the vanes includes a first half extending from the outer circumference adjacent the first face and a second half extending from the outer circumference adjacent the second face. The second halves are rotationally shifted about the rotational axis relative to the first halves. The vanes are spaced un-evenly and in a non-repeating pattern about the outer circumference of the impeller body.

A channel is defined in the face surface of the cover. An inlet opening extends through the cover and is coupled to the channel. The channel has a first section and a second section. The first section extends from the inlet opening and is continually sloped relative to the face surface of the cover. The first section has a length of about 40 to about 90 degrees, as measured circumferentially on the face surface of the cover about the axis. The first section includes an inlet ramp, a main ramp, and a secondary ramp, with the secondary ramp being positioned between the main ramp and the inlet ramp, and the inlet ramp being positioned adjacent the inlet opening. Each ramp has at least one depth and at least one slope.

    摘要: A fuel pump for pumping fuel from an inlet port to an outlet port. In one embodiment, a housing made up of a body piece and a cover piece encloses an impeller. The impeller has a vaned periphery and an outer ring connected by spokes. An inlet hole is defined within the cover piece for fuel to enter the pump. An outlet hole is defined within the body piece for fuel to exit the pump into an internal chamber. A first main semicircular shaped channel is defined circumferentially into the cover piece and extends in an annular fashion around the cover piece. The body piece has a second main semicircular channel as well as at least one annular groove. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, there are two annular grooves, one connected directly to the second semicircular channel, and one around the peripheral edge of the body piece at the point where it contacts the cover piece.
