Polyester and polyester carbonates corresponding to the following formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 to R.sup.4, o to r, n, a and b and also X.sup.1 and Y.sup.1 are as defined in the specification,may be obtained by interfacial condensation from bisphenols corresponding to the following formula. ##STR2## aromatic dicarboxylic acid chlorides corresponding to the following formula ##STR3## and phosgene. The new polyesters and polyester carbonates combine outstanding heat resistance and light stability. They may be used both as thermoplastic materials as such or as constituents of polymer blends or even as UV (light) stabilizers or as UV (light)-stabilizing coatings. Accordingly, they have degrees of polycondensation n in the range from 2 to 100.

A UV-curable composition suitable for coating polycarbonate molded articles is disclosed. Accordingly the composition containsA) from 10 to 100% by weight of a polysiloxane which contains epoxy groups and is free from OH groups, and optionallyB) from 0 to 90% by weight of compounds other than A) which also contain epoxy groups and are free from OH groups, and/or optionallyC) from 0 to 40% by weight of compounds which are free from epoxy groups but contain hydroxyl groups, where components A)+B)+C) add up to 100% by weight, together withD) from 0.1 to 15% relative to the weight of A+B+C of photoinitiators and optionallyE) from 0 to 0.5% relative to the weight of A+B+C of sensitizers.In accordance with the invention , the composition is applied to the moldings of thermoplastic polycarbonates and then cured.

This invention relates to a process for coating moulded plastic articles of thermoplastic polycarbonates or thermoplastic polyarylene sulphides with metal oxides, to the moulded plastic articles obtainable by the process according to the invention and to their technological application for outdoor use, for example for the production of coverings or facings in the building industry.
