摘要:
A mobile wireless communication device notifies communication infrastructure that the mobile wireless communication device is traveling at a speed greater than a threshold speed. In response, the network infrastructure instructs the mobile wireless communication device to use a transition procedure to transition between base stations where the transition procedure is different from a handover procedure used by the mobile wireless communication device to change base stations when the speed of the mobile wireless communication device is less than or equal to the threshold speed.

Systems and methods for transparent handovers of mobile relays on high-speed vehicles. In an embodiment, a base station of a wireless communications network transmits identification data to a mobile relay on a high-speed vehicle. The identification data identifies base stations which are configured for transparent handovers. The network also receives data indicative of a scheduled path of the high-speed vehicle, which it uses to select a target base station for communication with the mobile relay. Once the target base station has been selected, the network begins servicing the mobile relay from the second base station, without requiring any measurement values from the mobile relay and without handover signaling.

In a communication system that includes at least a first base station (206) having a first geographical service area (12) and second base station (210) having a second geographical service area (16) that overlaps at least partially with the first geographical service area (12), a relaying mobile wireless communication device (202) receiving service from the second base station (210) receives and forwards scheduling information (204) to the second base station (210), where the scheduling information (204) is transmitted by the first base station (206) and identifies communication resources that will be used for wireless communication with the first base station. Based at least on the scheduling information, the second base station (210) schedules communication resources to mobile wireless communication devices (202, 212) receiving service from the second base station (210) such that interference is reduced, minimized, or eliminated.

Application-specific access lists are provided for a multimode mobile wireless device. The multimode mobile device has an access list for each wireless technology. Typically, these technology specific access lists are standard for each technology, and are provided by a service provider or the manufacturer of the multimode mobile device. For each application the multimode wireless device is a likely to operate, an application-specific access list is generated. The application-specific access list ranks the wireless technologies according to its relative desirability for the application. In this way, when the multimode mobile device request an application, the application-specific access list may be used to efficiently acquire a network preferred for that particular application. The application-specific access lists may be updated from time to time as applications are added or changed, as technology specific access lists are updated, or as geographic location changes.

A high pressure fluid jet system is provided, which is useful for cutting hard material during a surgical procedure. The cutting of hard material is more efficient as the system delivers abrasive solid particles with the high pressure fluid. In an exemplary embodiment, abrasive solid particles can be mixed with a pressurized stream of fluid prior to delivery of the fluid to a nozzle of an application tool. Alternatively, the abrasive solid particles can be entrained in the pressurized fluid stream or the pressurized fluid stream can erode a solid or suspension form of the abrasive particles.

Various surgical fluid jet cutting instruments for selective bulk removal and precision sculpting of tissue are provided. In an exemplary embodiment, the instrument includes a fluid delivery tube having a nozzle for forming a high pressure fluid jet, and an evacuation tube having an evacuation port or jet-receiving opening opposite to and spaced apart from the nozzle for receiving the high pressure fluid jet. In use, the fluid jet and/or the evacuation port can be moved relative to one another to allow the device to be selectively used for bulk removal of tissue and for precision sculpting of tissue.

Translucent, transparent, or semi-translucent microlens sheetings with composite images are disclosed, in which a composite image floats above or below the sheeting, or both. The composite image may be two-dimensional or three-dimensional. The sheeting may have at least one layer of material having a surface of microlenses that form one or more images at positions internal to the layer of material, at least one of the images being a partially complete image. Additional layers, such as retroreflective, translucent, transparent, or optical structure layers may also be incorporated into the sheeting.

Various surgical fluid jet cutting instruments for selective bulk removal and precision sculpting of tissue are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, the instrument can include a fluid delivery tube having a nozzle for forming a high pressure fluid jet, and at least two evacuation tubes that are adapted to be selectively and removably coupled to the fluid delivery tube. Each evacuation tube can have an evacuation port or jet-receiving opening that is adapted to be positioned opposite to and spaced apart from the nozzle for receiving the high pressure fluid jet. Each evacuation tube can also be adapted for a specific use. For example, the instrument can include a first evacuation tube that is adapted to allow bulk removal of tissue, and a second evacuation tube that is adapted to allow precision sculpting of tissue.
