    摘要: An improved process is provided for the formation of a high performance polyester (at least 85 mol percent polyethylene terephthalate) multifilament yarn. The product possesses a high strength (at least 7.5 grams per denier) and an unusually stable internal structure which renders it particularly suited for use in industrial applications at elevated temperatures. The filaments are melt spun and uniformly quenched under relatively high stress conditions (as described) to yield an as-spun filamentary material of relatively high birefringence (+9.times.10.sup.-3 to +70.times.10.sup.-3) which is passed in-line from the quench zone to a first draw zone where it is drawn at a draw ratio of 1.01:1 to 3.0:1, and subsequently is drawn (as described) to achieve at least 85 percent of the maximum draw ratio of the as-spun filamentary material. The resulting filamentary material exhibits unusually low shrinkage and hysteresis characteristics (i.e. work loss characteristics) as well as the high strength chatracteristics. Accordingly, when utilized in the formation of a tire cord and embedded in a rubber matrix a highly stable tire may be formed which exhibits a significantly lesser heat generation upon flexing.

    摘要: An improved high performance polyester (at least 85 mol percent polyethylene terephthalate) multifilament yarn possessing a novel internal structure is provided. The multifilament yarn of the present invention possesses a high strength (at least 7.5 grams per denier) and an unusually stable internal structure which renders it particularly suited for use in industrial applications at elevated temperatures. As described in detail hereafter the subject multifilamentary material exhibits unusually low shrinkage and hysteresis characteristics (i.e. work loss characteristics) coupled with the high strength characteristics normally associated with polyester industrial yarns. Accordingly, when utilized in the formation of a tire cord and embedded in a rubber matrix, a highly stable tire may be formed which exhibits a significantly lesser heat generation uon flexing.

    摘要: A tapping sleeve assembly for direct connection to a gate valve. The assembly includes a tapping sleeve attached to a main pipe. An outlet conduit formed integrally with and extend outwardly from the tapping sleeve terminates in a distal end outlet. A retaining ring is attached to the outer surface of the outlet conduit and is located between the tapping sleeve and the distal end outlet. Opposed, longitudinally facing annular surfaces are formed on the retaining ring with one of the annular surfaces facing the tapping sleeve and the other facing the distal end outlet. The annular surface facing the tapping sleeve is inclined. A gland telescopes over the outlet conduit. The gland has a collar with an annular surface engaged with an annular surface of the retaining ring. A gate valve has a socket facing the outlet conduit, a gasket is positioned in the socket and a mechanical joint flange surrounds the socket. Bolts and nuts attach the gland to the mechanical joint flange of the gate valve.

    摘要: The disclosure disclosed a fabric made of cellulose acetate and/or cellulose triacetate, and optionally fibers of other selected substances, which are calendered at selected temperatures and pressures after having been water-wetted to a selected water content in order to bond the fibers of cellulose acetate and/or triacetate to one another and/or to fibers of the other selected substances. The selected calendering temperatures are from about 130° C. to about 210° C., preferably from about 160° C. to about 190° C.; the selected pressures are from about 500 to about 5000 psi, preferably from about 500 to about 2500 psi and most preferably from about 1000 to about 2500 psi; and selected water content is from about 20% to about 600% of fabric dry weight. The physical properties of the calendered fabric, for example the stiffness or hand resulting from different degrees of bonding can be changed by altering one or more of there parameters, either separately or in combination. The physical properties can also be changed by changed by changing the rate at which the fabric is passed between the calendering rollers or the type of rollers used, for example, smooth versus embossed or patterned rollers.

    摘要: A tapping sleeve for attaching a branch line to a main fluid conduit. The tapping sleeve has upper and lower sleeve members, bolted together around the main fluid conduit. Shell gaskets seal between the sleeve members and the main fluid conduit and a branch gasket seals around a side opening in the upper sleeve member. Metal shell gasket retaining rings secure the shell gaskets in place and a metal branch gasket retaining ring secures the branch gasket. In the preferred embodiment, the retaining ring has a circular cross section.

    摘要: A mixture of disodium and monosodium orthophosphate in a 2:1 mole ratio is prepared by sequentially reacting phosphoric acid with monohydrate process soda ash and caustic soda in a semi-solid reaction medium.Milled monohydrate process soda ash is contacted in less than stoichiometric proportions with phosphoric acid and the resultant orthophosphate containing reaction mixture is brought to a sodium to phosphorus mole ratio of about 1.67:1 by subsequent reaction with caustic soda. The final reaction product of mixed disodium and monosodium orthophosphate is suitable feedstock for conversion to sodium tripolyphosphate.
