Abstract: Methods and systems are described for assigning the proper internet protocol (IP) address to a client device following authentication of the client device on a network. In particular, at commencement of an authentication procedure of the client device, a role is associated with the client device that denies all DHCP renews/requests. By assigning a role to the client device 103 with a “deny DHCP renew/request” rule at the commencement of an authentication procedure, the systems and methods described herein ensure that a race condition does not allow the client device to renew an IP address in an old segment of the network. Accordingly, the client device may avoid a possibly improper IP address in a segment of the network system in which the client device is no longer associated with or operating on.

Abstract: A network system and the method is described that splits media identification logic and media classification and/or general data session processing/management logic into separate controllers (e.g., between the local controllers and a service controller). By separating media identification logic and media classification logic (or general media processing/management logic), the system and method allows for greater flexibility and scalability in a network system employing a service controller. In particular, by allowing the local controllers to perform media identification and to construct a single packet that characterizes/describes a media session, the system avoids the need to transmit multiple data packets of a media session to the service controller for classification of the session. Accordingly, the system includes the flexibility a service controller provides while allowing for greater scalability by separating media identification logic and media classification respectively between a local controller and the service controller.

For example, a non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions executable by a processing resource can determine a plurality of deployment thresholds of a plurality of devices, wherein the plurality of deployment thresholds are associated with a type of the plurality of devices. The instructions can cause the processing resource to monitor deployment data associated with the plurality of devices to identify a device with a deployment outlier. The device with the deployment outlier is a device with deployment data that is outside a deployment threshold of the device. The instructions can cause the processing resource to adjust the deployment threshold of the device based on the monitoring.

For example, a non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions executable by a processing resource can cause a computer to determine a characteristic affecting a subset of a plurality of network devices. The instructions can cause the processing resource to determine that at least two of the subset of the plurality of network devices that are affected by the characteristic are neighbors. The instructions can cause the processing resource to indicate a region to be associated with each network device of the subset based on the determination that at least two of the subset of the plurality of network devices are neighbors.

Abstract: Examples relate to managing network traffic. In one example, a computing device may: receive voice network traffic from each of a plurality of voice clients; enqueue the received voice network traffic into a voice Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) queue; determine a measure of WMM queue utilization based on data queued in the voice WMM queue; determine a measure of radio congestion for a surrounding area; and determine, based on the measure of WMM queue utilization and the measure of radio congestion, to: stop prioritization of newly received voice traffic from new voice clients, or transition at least one of the plurality of voice clients to a neighboring computing device.
