摘要： In a liquid crystal display device including first and second substrate members, a layer of a liquid crystal material between the first and the second substrate members, an active switching element formed on the first substrate member, a pixel electrode connected to the active switching element and which has first and second portions, a primary signal line connected to the pixel electrode, a secondary signal line adjacent to the primary signal line with the pixel electrode interposed therebetween, a scanning line connected to the pixel electrode, the first portion of the pixel electrode is nearer to the primary signal line than to the secondary signal line while the second portion of the pixel electrode is nearer to the secondary signal line than to the primary signal line.

摘要： Liquid crystal display (LCD) has sub-pixel domains in each of pixels to obtain a wide viewing angle. The sub-pixel domains are formed by divided orientation alignment in which the sub-pixel domain are subjected to rubbing in different directions opposite to each other. The liquid crystal has a splay-type TN deformation structure in the first sub-pixel domain and a normal TN deformation structure in the second sub-pixel domain. The pre-tilt angles of the liquid crystal in the first domain and second domain are selected to obtain a wide viewing angle. The LCD has a shield pattern for for shielding disclination causing afterimages and storage capacitor electrodes having a function as a signal lines.

摘要： Scanning signal lines and video signal lines are provided in a matrix on the surface of one of a pair of glass substrates between which liquid crystal is filled. In each pixel area, thin film transistor is provided corresponding to each of cross points of the scanning signal lines and video signal lines. A reference signal line is provided across adjacent pixel areas, and reference electrodes are provided on one side of the reference signal line and extend in a comb-like form into each pixel area. A display electrode having a comb-like shape is provided such that it meshes with the reference electrodes. A light interception layer 111 having a width greater than that of display electrode and reference electrode is formed so as to overlap both of the electrode with an insulation film being interposed therebetween. Leakage of light from around sides of the display electrode and reference electrode is prevented even if liquid crystal molecules are inclined by an electric field produced by a voltage applied between the display electrode and reference electrode.
