    摘要: A voice-activated command interface module for interacting with a plurality of home-based electronic devices so as to allow for a remotely-located home owner to communicate with, command and control various ones of the electronic devices. The module includes a plurality of communication ports, each communication port associated with a different type of communication interface for providing communications to and from the plurality of electronic devices. The module also includes a voice network communication port for receiving the voice commands from the home owner and a data network communication port for transmitting monitoring and control information between the plurality of electronic devices and the home owner. In operation, the command interface module is responsive to voice commands received from a remote user via an incoming telephone line (either data or voice). A voice recognition unit within the command interface module is utilized to translate the received voice signal into an “action/control” signal and then perform the desired activity.

    摘要: In accordance with the teachings of the present invention, an architecture and method is presented for proving an ad hoc work space environment. In accordance with the teachings of the present invention, an end user operates a graphical user interface (GUI) to input requirements defining an ad hoc work space. Software robots are launched and they provision network resources to implement the requirements. The end user may then collaborate with others in the ad hoc work space while activities are logged. When there is no longer a need for the ad hoc work space, the provisioned resources may be returned to the network and the ad hoc work space may be dismantled.

    摘要: An integrated communications network includes a free space optics network and a radio frequency network. A first method provides Classes of Service (CoS) to a subscriber located among regions defined by respective transmission bandwidth capabilities. The first method involves monitoring in which region the subscriber is located, and determining at least one possible CoS that can be provided using at least one of the FSO and RF networks, based on a transmission bandwidth capability of the region in which the subscriber is located. Another method involves comparing projected costs of possible CoSs, and selecting a CoS to provide to the subscriber. A load balancing and resource sharing method involves determining whether or not to provide additional bandwidth capacity in, or to re allocate bandwidth capacity among, transceivers in FSO and RF networks, in clusters of the transceivers, or in aggregates of the clusters of the transceivers.

    摘要: An arrangement for providing, on an ad hoc basis, closed user group (CUG) among a collection of pre-defined IP network users. A set of intelligent access devices, dispersed through the IP network, constantly transmit a set of pings associated with the defined CUGs to discover those devices within its communication range. The discovered IP addresses for each device is thus constantly updated, allowing group members to remain in constant contact (emulating an “always on” connection). The users feel they are always connected with group members and thus have instant access to voice/data/video sessions—much like hot lines or “always on” connections.
