摘要: A system, a transceiver, and methods for code division multiple access (CDMA) communication. The system includes first and second code division multiple access transceivers. The first code division multiple access transceiver has a plurality antennas disposed to provide transmission via a plurality of paths and the second code division multiple access transceiver has a rake arrangement for processing a plurality of signals received at the rake arrangement with differing delays or other characteristics. A driving arrangement is provided for causing the first code division multiple access transceiver to use a relative few, e.g., one, of the plurality of antennas. When, however, an indication is obtained that an adequate number of resolvable signals are likely not received at the rake arrangement of the second transceiver, a circuit switches the driving arrangement to cause the first transceiver to use more of the plurality of antennas. In one implementation, the second transceiver sends a feedback signal indicating the number of useful signals being received and the first transceiver responds to the feedback signal by selecting and using a desirable number of transmit antennas. In an implementation suitable for a time-division duplexing (TDD) communication system, the first transceiver obtains the indication by inference from the fact that it is not receiving an adequate plurality of resolvable signals from the second transceiver. When the first transceiver obtains the indication, it drives the increased number of antennas either with respective delays or with different codes of the CDMA type.

摘要: A system captures motion data in natural environments. A set of sources and a set of sensors are arranged on an object such as a human body. Each source emits ultrasonic signals detected by the sensors. A driver module is also arranged on the body. The driver module generates the ultrasonic signals for the set of sources and timing signals for the set of sensors. Distances between the set of sources and the set of sensors are measured based on a time of flight of the ultrasonic signals. Three dimensional locations of the set of sources and the set of sensors are determined from the distances. The distance measurements are refined using inertial components that provide rotation rates and accelerations. All these measurements together yield poses or configurations of the object.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for estimating mobile location in a wireless communication system including a plurality of base stations. In a base-to-mobile embodiment, the system base stations periodically transmit location signals to mobile stations during a system-wide blank-and-burst interval during which normal wireless communications are suspended. The interval is made sufficiently short that disruption to normal operation is negligible. Each base station transmits a distinct location signal which can be identified by a mobile station as associated with a particular base station. A given mobile station for which a location estimate is to be generated detects location signals from at least three of the system base stations. The detected location signals are used to generate differential path delay measurements which may be further processed in accordance with a triangulation technique to generate an estimate of mobile location. The suspension of normal wireless communications permits the location signals to occupy a broad bandwidth corresponding to multiple voice data channels, such that high resolution differential path delay measurements can be generated. The location signals from adjacent or neighboring base stations may also be configured to appear mutually orthogonal at a receiving mobile station, such that location signals from base stations close to a mobile will not interfere with detection of a location signal from a more distant base station. For example, the location signals may be selected to have waveforms which exhibit substantially non-overlapping comb-like frequency spectra. The invention may also be implemented in partial system blanking embodiments and mobile-to-base embodiments.

摘要: A duplex radio communication system includes an Interrogator which generates a first modulated signal by modulating a first information signal onto a radio carrier signal. The Interrogator transmits the first modulated signal to at least one remote Tag of the system. The remote Tag receives and processes the first modulated signal received at its Antenna. A Backscatter Modulator uses a second information signal to modulate the reflection of the first modulated signal from the Antenna, the reflected signal being a second modulated signal. The Interrogator receives and demodulates the second modulated signal to obtain the second information signal.

摘要: A method and system communicates messages using a radio signal. The radio signal is transmitted according to an air interface standard for wireless radio communications. A baseband envelope of the transmitted radio signal is modulated while maintaining compliance with the air interface standard to encode a message in the radio signal. A receiver demodulates the baseband envelope to decode the message. The transmitter and receiver can be part of a cellular telephone network including mobile telephones and base stations.

摘要: An optical communications transceiver includes an LED coupled in series with a resistor. A microprocessor has one I/O pin connected to the LED. In a first mode or transmit mode, the LED is periodically driving in forward bias to emit light to transmit data. In a second or receive mode, the LED is periodically not driven in reverse bias, e.g., reverse bias or zero bias. Then, the LED is allowed to change charge of the capacitance of the LED's junction using a photo-current. The change in charge is measured using a timer. When the change in charge exceeds a predetermined threshold, input light is sensed. Thus, the LED can be used to receive data in the second mode.

摘要: A tag and an interrogator exchange proprietary information using Modulated BackScatter (MBS) technology. A method for encrypting the RFID user's PIN and thereby making the interception and the subsequent illegal use of RFID accounts at least as difficult as a present day ATM cards. For example, the encryption method can be based upon the US Digital Encryption Standard (DES), either first or third level. The Tag's personal encryption key is only known by the financial database and the RFID Tag. This method can be applied to any type of financial, debt, identification, or credit card.
