Abstract: Example communication methods and apparatus are described. One example method includes determining a random access preamble by a terminal device. The random access preamble includes six symbol groups. The terminal device determines a frequency location of the random access preamble based on random access configuration information and a preset rule. A frequency hopping interval between a first symbol group and a second symbol group and a frequency hopping interval between a fifth symbol group and a sixth symbol group are equal and are first intervals. A frequency hopping interval between the second symbol group and a third symbol group and a frequency hopping interval between a fourth symbol group and the fifth symbol group are equal and are second intervals. A frequency hopping interval between the third symbol group and the fourth symbol group is a third interval. The random access preamble is sent based on the frequency location.

Abstract: Example signal transmission methods and apparatus are described. One example method includes generating a first signal by a network device, where the first signal is used to indicate to a terminal device whether there is paging scheduling information on a first paging occasion. The network device determines a first resource based on at least one of a paging configuration parameter, a first parameter set, a terminal device identifier, or a terminal identification code. The network device sends the first signal to the terminal device on the first resource. The signal transmission methods, network device, and terminal device in the embodiments of this application enable the terminal device to determine, based on the first signal, whether to listen on a downlink control channel, reducing power consumption of the terminal device.

Abstract: Example communication methods and apparatus are described. In one example method, a first cell includes a plurality of terminal devices that can transmit uplink data on a same uplink time-frequency resource. A first terminal device in the plurality of terminal devices determines a reference time domain location based on a preconfigured uplink time-frequency resource, where the reference time domain location is the same as a reference time domain location determined by another terminal device in the plurality of terminal devices. The first terminal device determines a time domain location that is (first duration×N H+second duration×(N−1)) away from the reference time domain location as a start time domain location of X gaps. The first terminal device further determines a time domain location that is (first duration×(M−1)+second duration x (M−1)) away from the reference time domain location as a start time domain location of Y first durations, where Y=X or Y=X+1. Uplink data is sent by the first terminal device to a network device on a first time-frequency resource used to transmit uplink data.

Abstract: A message transmission method and a device are used to accelerate a random access procedure. The method includes: receiving, by a terminal device, a repetition quantity of an uplink message from a network device, in response to determining that a reference signal receive power (RSRP) range of the terminal device is within an RSRP range corresponding to a signal coverage enhancement level 0, wherein the uplink message comprises a third message of a sequence of messages comprised in a random access attempt; calculating, by the terminal device, transmit power based on a power control parameter for the repetition quantity; and sending, by the terminal device, the uplink message to the network device based on the calculated transmit power.
