Abstract: Embodiments of an Evolved Node-B (eNB) and methods for transition between idle and connected modes are disclosed herein. The eNB may receive uplink data packets from a User Equipment (UE) using a lightweight Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection between the eNB and the UE. The eNB may transmit an RRC connection release message to the UE to indicate a transition of the UE to an RRC idle mode for the RRC connection. The RRC connection release message may include an indicator of whether the UE is to store context information for the RRC connection. The eNB may further receive additional uplink data packets according to the stored context information using a lightweight RRC connection.

Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, a user equipment (UE) may enter into an E-UTRAN Routing Area Paging Channel state, and is configured with an E-UTRAN Routing Area and an Anchor identifier to identify an anchor evolved Node B (eNB) for the UE. The UE selects to a new cell without performing a handover procedure, and performs a cell update procedure. The UE also may enter into a Cell Update Connected state, and is configured with an Anchor identifier. The UE selects to a new cell, performs a cell update procedure, performs a buffer request procedure, and performs a cell update procedure to download buffered data and to perform data transmission with the new cell.

Abstract: Adaptive paging techniques for EC-capable devices are described. In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus may comprise at least one memory and logic for an evolved node B (eNB), at least a portion of the logic comprised in hardware coupled to the at least one memory, the logic to receive an S1 paging message comprising a user equipment (UE) identifier (ID) associated with a UE and an extended coverage (EC) capability indicator indicating that the UE is EC-capable and page the UE using an EC paging sequence based on receipt of the S1 paging message, the EC paging sequence to comprise a series of transmissions of a radio resource control (RRC) paging message, the logic to truncate the EC paging sequence based on a determination that the UE has responded to RRC paging. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: Devices and methods of enhanced coverage (EC) paging are generally described. An evolved Node-B (eNB) may transmit multiple EC paging messages to user equipment (UE) over at least one paging cycle. Each EC paging message may contain the same paging information. The UE may combine the individual EC paging messages to achieve a predetermined link budget and subsequently may decode the EC combined paging message to determine whether the combined paging message is directed to the UE. The EC paging messages may contain information for more than one UE and a legacy P-RNTI or a specific P-RNTI for EC mode UEs. The EC paging messages may be transmitted in legacy occasions over several paging cycles or non-legacy paging occasions over one or more paging cycles. The EC paging messages may be transmitted in continuous or non-continuous subframes in a particular paging cycle.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE), Evolved Node-B (eNB) and methods for communication in accordance with a packet convergence and link control (PCLC) layer are generally described herein. The UE may receive, from a Fifth Generation (5G) eNB, a first group of medium access control (MAC) protocol data units (PDUs) that include PCLC PDUs. In accordance with PCLC sequence numbers (SNs), the UE may reorder the PCLC PDUs and may decipher the PCLC PDUs. The UE may receive, from a legacy eNB, a second group of MAC PDUs that include packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) PDUs encapsulated in radio link control (RLC) PDUs. The UE may reorder the RLC PDUs based on RLC SNs and may decipher the RLC PDUs based on PDCP SNs that are exclusive to the RLC SNs.

Abstract: System information change notification techniques for wireless communication networks are described. Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) arranged for transmitting packets in a cellular network are disclosed herein. The UE can generate a first packet having a first packet classification information and a second packet having a second packet classification information. The first packet classification information can be associated with a different quality of service (QoS) requirement than the second packet classification information. The UE, using a packet filter, can determine, based on the first packet classification information, a first traffic flow from a plurality of traffic flows in a traffic flow template (TFT) for transmitting the first packet. Additionally, the UE can determine, based on the second packet classification information, a second traffic flow from the plurality of traffic flows for transmitting the second packet. Subsequently, the UE send the first packet to the first traffic flow and the second packet to the second traffic flow.
