Apparatus for biomass torrefaction which includes a serpentine elongated housing, the housing having three generally U-shaped axial portions having first and second axial extremities and an intermediate section, the first and second axial extremities are disposed in normal use at a higher elevation than the first and second axial extremities, the intermediate section being configured for holding a liquid. Other forms of the invention include the method for biomass torrefaction which includes providing a quantity of biomass, providing a liquid heat transfer fluid, providing at least a first housing for holding the heat transfer liquid, elevating the temperature of the liquid heat transfer liquid, heat treating the biomass by passing it through the heat transfer liquid in the first housing at a temperature and duration sufficient to accomplish torrefaction of the wood. In some forms of the method, the process further includes the step of pelletizing the biomass prior to performing the treating step.
Abstract:
A remote controlled floatation chamber with a trolling unit can be directed to a selected site in order to treat and control aquatic plants. The chamber method allows use of a broad range of treatment agents including herbicide, chemical and microbe's and UV-C light waves to destroy aquatic species. Provisions for deflating floatation tubes on the chamber allow it to be remotely lowered over species to be treated. Once the chamber is placed over the aquatic specie the treatment agent can be dispersed within the small volume of the containment volume with minimum exposure to the surrounding water. A variable volume device or storage bladder within the containment volume may be used to recycle the herbicide once treatment is completed. The chamber can then be moved to another site and the cycle repeated.
Abstract:
A method for remediation, control, and mitigation of aquatic species by killing, damaging, weakening, and or reducing the growth of living organisms or species on and under the surface of a body of water. A solar collector array powers a UVC light array comprising a plurality of UVC lights that have sufficient UVC power to control and mitigate aquatic species by killing, damaging, weakening and or reducing the growth of living organisms or species under or on the surface of a body water. The method includes remotely maneuvering the UVC light array on or under the surface of a body of water.
Abstract:
A closed lubrication or hydraulic system that eliminates the traditional breather cap and includes (1) oxygen absorber that removes oxygen molecules and (2) a desiccant to dry the air that communicates with hydraulic fluid or lubricant in a reservoir. A metallic heat conduction rod is partially exposed to internal air and partly exposed to ambient air. The conduction rod is in close proximity to the oxygen absorber and desiccant in the cartridge. A cool portion on the conduction rod attracts hot humid internal air causing condensation of water near the surface of the conduction rod.
Abstract:
An apparatus and the associated method which includes means for controlling an invasive organism. The means including a trolling apparatus, for attachment to an associated vehicle. The trolling apparatus is pulled through a body of water in response to movement of the associated vehicle. The housing carries a plurality of UV-C light sources for producing UV-C light at a wavelength of substantially 254 nm, whereby invasive organisms proximate to light emanating from at least one of said UV-C light source whereby invasive organisms are exposed to UV-C light at a wavelength of substantially 254 nm resulting in controlling an invasive organism. Other embodiments, attract organisms such as mosquitos and then expose them to UV-C light. The invention facilitates reduced use of herbicide.

Abstract:
A sewer gas odor absorption apparatus for a manhole having a perforate manhole cover disposed in the manhole which includes an imperforate housing having a seal dimensioned and configured for sealing engagement with the manhole, the housing has a first extremity and a second extremity and a passageway in fluid communication with ambient air above the manhole cover at the first extremity and in fluid communication with sewer gases at the second extremity thereof. A sub-assembly including a porous absorption media and a variable volume device disposed in mutual fluid communication in a subassembly having first and second axial extremities, the first and second extremities of the subassembly being disposed in fluid communication respectively with the first and second extremities of the imperforate housing.
Abstract:
A method and related apparatus for torrefaction of associated biomass which includes providing an enclosed chamber having a body and a door having an open position allowing passage into and out of the enclosed chamber and a closed position in which the door is disposed in sealing engagement with the body, providing the enclosed chamber with walls capable of sustaining both a negative pressure and a positive pressure within the enclosed chamber; moving the door to an open position; depositing a liquid heat transfer fluid within the enclosed chamber at a temperature sufficient to achieve torrefication of the biomass and a first quantity of biomass material in the enclosed chamber that is substantially totally immersed in the liquid heat transfer fluid whereby heat transfer occurs between the liquid heat transfer fluid and the biomass immersed therein; moving the door to a closed position in sealing engagement with the body; and allowing the pressure within the enclosed chamber to rise to a pressure above the vapor pressure of the heat transfer fluid as a result of the expansion of liquids and gases entrained within the biomass.
