    摘要: A tube-to-plate connection and method for making it utilize a plate defining an aperture where the tube is to be attached to the plate, with the portion of the plate surrounding the aperture including a flange extending away from the plane of the plate. The tube side wall lies generally within the flange. The flange and tube wall are simultaneously cut or staked radially by a piercing cutter-staker which pierces the walls of both flange and tube wall to prevent axial movement or rotation of the tube with respect to the flange.

    摘要: A mechanical connection of a first tube to a second tube, in which the first tube has a radially inner dimension and the second tube has a radially outer dimension permitting close sliding engagement of an end of the second tube within an end of the first tube. The connection includes staked segments spaced apart circumferentially about the first and second tube side walls. Each staked segment includes simultaneously formed projections formed by a staking or piercing knife in the side walls of both tubes.

    摘要: A banding strap for attaching a heat shield to a muffler comprises a strap for encircling the muffler and heat shield, the strap including an underlying end segment and an overlying end segment, each including outwardly projecting shoulder sections providing abutments for crimping to interlock the end segments and tighten the strap around the muffler and heat shield. The outwardly projecting shoulder section in the overlying end segment forms an inwardly opening bight for receiving the outwardly projecting shoulder section in the underlying end segment. Each shoulder section includes an inwardly projecting indentation so that the indentation of one of the shoulder sections nests within the indentation of the other of the shoulder sections when the shoulder sections are engaged to prevent lateral misalignment of the end segments with respect to each other.

    摘要: A portable mirror device for rear view observation in a motor vehicle or the like has a mirror device connected to an end of an adjustment arm by a ball-and-socket type joint, while an opposite end of the adjustment arm is swivally connected to a mounting arrangement comprised of a spring clip, having a pair of clip members connected by a spring member, the spring member biasing the clip members towards a position wherein holding ends of the clip members engage each other. A suction cup device that is fastened to a second end of one of the clip members. The provision of two different types of mounting mechanisms and pivot arrangements at opposite ends of the adjustment arm produce a very versatile portable mirror device that can be mounted to any of a large number of different elements and utilized in a large number of different orientations. The device is also constructed so as to minimize problems resulting from vehicle vibrations, road shocks and the like.

    摘要: An exhaust processor is provided for filtering particulate matter from a combustion product. The exhaust processor includes a partition situated inside a housing to form a first flow passage and a second flow passage in an upstream portion of the housing. A main substrate is mounted in the first flow passage for solid particle filtration. An auxiliary substrate is situated in the second flow passage to filter combustion product passing through the second flow passage during regeneration of the main substrate. A muffler is situated in a downstream portion of the housing and is arranged so that the entire spacial volume of the muffler can be utilized by combustion product passing through either the first or second flow passages.

    摘要: An exhaust manifold includes an inner shell providing a first flange having an interior and exterior surface and an outer shell cooperating with the inner shell to define an interior region therebetween. The outer shell provides a second flange having an exterior surface which is situated in spaced-apart relation to the interior surface of the first flange to form a flange-receiving space therebetween. The flange-receiving space provides an access opening into the interior region intermediate the inner and outer shells. At least one baffle is situated in the interior region. The at least one baffle includes a mounting flange nested between the first and second flanges and positioned in the flange-receiving space to extend through the access opening so that a distal portion of the mounting flange is exposed to exterior surroundings outside of the interior region defined by the inner and outer shells. Configuration of the at least one baffle is disclosed for use in single and dual exhaust manifolds.

    摘要: A tuned exhaust manifold is provided for attachment to an engine having a plurality of exhaust ports. The manifold includes an inner and outer shell joined together to form an exhaust chamber and an inwardly-opening flange-receiving space at a split line defined by the union of the inner and outer shells. Captive tuning baffles are dropped in place and positioned in the exhaust chamber to isolate individual engine exhaust ports for engine performance tuning. Each baffle includes a flange trapped in the space between the inner and outer shells to retain the baffle in a predetermined position within the exhaust chamber. The baffles are arranged in a predetermined pattern within the exhaust manifold to define separate passgeways extending from exhaust inlet openings formed in the inner shell toward one or more exhaust openings of the manifold. Tuning is accomplished by configuring and placing the baffles to control the flow of exhaust from each engine exhaust port through the exhaust manifold. A method of assembling the captive tuning baffles between the inner and outer shells is also provided.
