Abstract:
A grating light valve has with a plurality of spaced reflective ribbons are spatially arranged over a substrate with reflective surfaces. The grating light valve is configured to optimized the conditions for constructive and destructive interference with an incident light source having a wavelength λ. The grating light valve preferably has a set of movable active ribbons alternating between the set of stationary bias ribbons. The active ribbons and the bias ribbons are spatially separated over the substrate surface such that reflective regions of the substrate surface correspond to the spaces between the ribbons. The ribbons and reflective regions of the substrate optically and geometrically optimized for to generate the conditions for constrictive and destructive interference with the incident light source. Accordingly, ribbons of the active ribbons are configured with reflective cross sections that are is approximately equal to the sum of the diffraction cross sections of the bias ribbons and the reflective regions of the substrate. In operation, active ribbons are moved by a multiple of λ/4 to switch between the conditions for constructive and destructive interference.
Abstract:
A device comprising movable micro-structures configured to contact a substrate is disclosed. The substrate has a metal-insulator-metal construction with an upper metal layer and an insulator being patterned to provide substrate contact regions to a lower metal layer. The micro-structures have metal under layers for providing ribbon contact regions and non-contact regions. In use, a bias voltage is applied across the micro-structures and the top metal layer of the substrate causing the micro-structures and the substrate to contact through the contact regions. During contact, the contact regions are maintained at a potential that is substantially less than the applied bias voltage, thereby reducing the formation of asperities and/or sticking between contacting parts. The micro-structures are preferably ribbon structures in an optical MEM device configured to modulate light.
Abstract:
A service to coordinate the care of patients who are on a REMS-required medication. The service implements a monitoring hub for coordinating the work between a clinician, pharmacy, and laboratory in the care of a patient. The patient has blood samples tested for safety monitoring. The monitoring hub performs the task of entering the test results . . . into the REMS database. The monitoring hub has qualified personnel who are enrolled in the REMS program as a prescriber designee for the clinician. The prescriber designee works with the clinician, pharmacy, or laboratory to ensure compliance with the REMS requirements. In addition to providing administrative support for REMS compliance, the service could be an integrated care management system that assists patients/families and providers with other aspects of their care and practice needs.

Generally, the package includes a cavity in which the MEMS is enclosed, an inlet through which a fluid is introduced to the cavity during operation of the MEMS and an outlet through which the fluid is removed during operation of the MEMS, wherein the package includes features that promote laminar flow of the fluid across the MEMS. The package and method are particularly useful in packaging spatial light modulators including a reflective surface and adapted to reflect and modulate a light beam incident thereon. Other embodiments are also provided.

A flow through Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) package and methods of operating a MEMS packaged using the same are provided. Generally, the package includes a cavity in which the MEMS is enclosed, an inlet through which a fluid is introduced to the cavity during operation of the MEMS and an outlet through which the fluid is removed during operation of the MEMS. In certain embodiments, the fluid includes an gas, such as nitrogen, and the inlet and outlet are adapted to provide a flow of gas of from 0.01 Standard Cubic Centimeters per Minute (sccm) to 10000 sccm during operation of the MEMS. The package and method are particularly useful in packaging spatial light modulators including a reflective surface and adapted to reflect and modulate a light beam incident thereon. Other embodiments are also provided.
Abstract:
A virtualization infrastructure that allows multiple guest partitions to run within a host hardware partition. The host system is divided into distinct logical or virtual partitions and special infrastructure partitions are implemented to control resource management and to control physical I/O device drivers that are, in turn, used by operating systems in other distinct logical or virtual guest partitions. Host hardware resource management runs as a tracking application in a resource management “ultravisor” partition, while host resource management decisions are performed in a higher level command partition based on policies maintained in a separate operations partition. The conventional hypervisor is reduced to a context switching and containment element (monitor) for the respective partitions, while the system resource management functionality is implemented in the ultravisor partition. The ultravisor partition maintains the master in-memory database of the hardware resource allocations and serves a command channel to accept transactional requests for assignment of resources to partitions. It also provides individual read-only views of individual partitions to the associated partition monitors. Host hardware I/O management is implemented in special redundant I/O partitions. Operating systems in other logical or virtual partitions communicate with the I/O partitions via memory channels established by the ultravisor partition. The guest operating systems in the respective logical or virtual partitions are modified to access monitors that implement a system call interface through which the ultravisor, I/O, and any other special infrastructure partitions may initiate communications with each other and with the respective guest partitions. The guest operating systems are modified so that they do not attempt to use the “broken” instructions in the x86 system that complete virtualization systems must resolve by inserting traps.

Abstract:
A flexible plastic container for shipment and distribution of wild bird seed. The outer wall of the container 18 to have a shape that allows the bird seed to flow by gravity to the lower extremity of the container. One or more feeder holes 15 located at a convenient distance above a folding perch 14. This perch to be attached to the outer wall of the container 18 so that it can be secured against the container for shipping and handling, and folded outward when ready for hanging. The container to be heat sealed 12 after filling and sealed by removable seals to close the feeder holes and to secure the perch 14 in the shipping position. The purpose is to provide the consumer with a convenient, economical, method of feeding wild birds. It also is a better way to insure that the birds receive feed that is clean and free of mold and decay. If hung properly it will not be attacked or destroyed by squirrels.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for operating a database in system memory within a virtual partition are described. One system includes one or more host computing systems, each host computing system including at least one execution core and a system memory. The system includes a plurality of virtual partitions executing on the one or more host computing systems and including a first partition having at least a portion of the system memory associated with at least one of the one or more host computing systems and configured to store a database therein. The system also includes an interconnect layer communicatively connecting the plurality of virtual partitions, the interconnect layer providing a programming interface by which direct memory access operations between partitions are coordinated. In response to database commands received at the first partition, the data stored in the database is provided to a requesting partition a direct memory access operation.
