Abstract:
Coin operated vending machines and vending methods for self service car washes that vend different commodities or services at a united price. The machines vend vacuum at different speeds, and spot remover or fragrance. Each machine has a computer-controlled, multi-segmented bar graph providing an analog indication of the amount of a vend that remains, and a dot matrix system for displaying text messages. The bar graph has multiple adjacent segments each having multiple cells that contain separate LEDS of different colors. The bar graph provides a relative, analog indication of the amount of a particular commodity remaining to be vended. When a vend starts, all of the bar graph segments are illuminated and as vending continues, bar graph segments and individually cells are sequentially decremented. Different products are associated with different colors. The customer may switch selections while a credit balance remains, and bar graph illumination is reset to 100%.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a clamp, a self-advancing climbing device including two such clamps, and a method of coupling such a clamp to a tubular. In one embodiment of the invention, there is disclosed a clamp (1) for a tubular, in particular a thin-walled tubular such as the tower (3) of a wind-turbine. The clamp (1) comprises at least one clamp member in the form of a friction pad (9) adapted to grip the tower (3), and at least one flexible elongate energising element in the form of a tendon (16) adapted to exert a force on the friction pad (9) to urge the pad (9) to grip the tower (3), whereby the pad (9) and the tendon (16) are adapted to exert a substantially uniform radial clamp load on the tower (3).
Abstract:
A polarizer for an antenna and antenna structures are disclosed. According to one aspect a polarizer includes a generally cylindrical sidewall portion extending between spaced apart end portions. At least one polarizing structure extends substantially continuously along an interior of the sidewall portion and extends radially inwardly relative to the sidewall portion according to a first radius in a longitudinal direction and a second radius in a transverse direction. The polarizer can be implemented as part of an antenna structure, which further can be integrated with a transition stage and/or a horn.
Abstract:
A temperature controlled food service container is formed with an inner portion having side walls and an opening for the receipt of food, and an outer portion having sidewalls spaced from the inner portion with a eutectic gel, disposed between them. A ledge extends from the periphery of the outer portion with a flange extending from the inner portion seated against the ledge; and is held by an ultrasonic bond joining the ledge to the flange. The food container has ribs along the sidewalls of the inner and outer portions. Peripheral channels and ridges are formed respectively on the ledge and flange for welded engagement with each other, the channels having enlarged segments which extend beyond the cross-sectional dimension of a respective ridge received therein. The method for making the food service container includes molding an outer walled shell portion having a ledge with at least one peripheral channel, and molding an inner walled shall portion having a major peripheral flange with at least one peripheral protuberance. Thereafter a eutectic gel is placed into the outer walled shell portion and the inner walled shell portion is placed therein. The peripheral protuberance is indexed into the peripheral channel and the ledge and flange are ultrasonically bonded.

Abstract:
An electronic alarm and a vending machine equipped with the alarm monitors a plurality of zones by suitable circuitry to detect vandalism and theft. Each zone has a mechanically-triggered sensor that provides an electrical output. The zones comprise a pair of door sensors and a separate, shock sensor. A solid-state logic circuit includes a red and green indicator light, and a loud warning buzzer ultimately triggered by the sensors. A circuit time delay and logic scheme analyzes sensor status, and separate false-alarm prevention circuits insure proper triggering after a predetermined delay. Alarm status is indicated by highly visible green and red status lights mounted on the door. A buzzer sounds in response to sensor activation and circuit logic. A back-up battery that is coupled to the logic circuitry for fail-safe operation includes an automatic recharge system, and dual red and green LED's monitor battery condition.
Abstract:
A sliding door suspension system and a sliding door assembly for supporting a heavy sliding door from a door frame includes a rail horizontally mounted to the door frame. The suspension system includes a roller assembly which rollingly engages the rail and supports the heavy door. The roller assembly includes an axle or shaft having a bearing surface. The axle has at least one threaded end for securing the roller assembly and for attaching the roller assembly to a door hanger from which the heavy door is suspended. The roller assembly further includes a roller with a concentric hollow bore for seating a bearing assembly or bushing through which the axle extends in supportive engagement with the bearing assembly. The rail has a convex arcuate upper roller guide surface. The roller has a concave arcuate roller guide engaging surface which conforms to and engages the upper surface of the rail. The roller assembly also includes a door height and alignment adjusting member which threadably engages the axle. In one embodiment, the door height adjusting member comprises an eccentric sleeve, whereas in an alternative embodiment, the door height adjusting member comprises an adjuster block.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for installing, maintaining and decommissioning wind turbines, both onshore and offshore, comprises a crane having extendable legs that allow it to climb a tower that it is erecting in sections by engaging the tower by friction or mechanical interference. The crane may carry the wind turbine nacelle on its upper members during construction of the tower and may be fitted with a crane for handling tower sections, or it may carry an “A” crane for lifting the nacelle and its components once the tower is complete or for constructing heavy maintenance. The crane may be fitted with various lifting and handling means to facilitate maintenance or the installation, maintenance or removal or airfoil rotor blades.
Abstract:
A method and system for making an antenna structure and to corresponding antenna structures are disclosed. A method for making a feed structure for an antenna may include providing a polarizer body having a polarizer sidewall extending longitudinally between spaced apart ends. A portion of the polarizer sidewall is deformed to provide at least one polarizing structure that extends radially inwardly along an interior of the polarizer sidewall relative to adjacent portions of the polarizer sidewall. The method thus can be utilized to produce an antenna structure.
Abstract:
An elongated structural member that includes a plastic sleeve surrounding a filler composite material. The filler composite material includes ground rubber particles and a binder, wherein the granular particle size for the ground rubber particles ranges from 0.125 inches to 0.5 inches. When the binder is a concrete binder, ten to twenty percent by volume of the filler composite material is the concrete binder and eighty to ninety percent by volume of the filler composite material is the ground rubber particles. Moreover, when the binder is a resin binder, ten percent by volume of the filler composite material is the resin binder and ninety percent by volume of the filler composite material is the ground rubber particles.
