There is described an analysis method for at least one image data record of an examination object, wherein each image data record features a multiplicity of image data elements. A position in a multidimensional space is assigned to each image data element. Each image data element features an image data value. The image data values of positionally corresponding image data elements of the image data records are specified by means of at least essentially positionally identical regions of the examination object. A computer automatically divides the image data records into empty regions and signal regions, applying an overall assignment rule which is based on the image data values of the image data elements of a plurality of image data records, such that each image data element of each image data record is assigned to either its empty region or its signal region. For each image data record, the computer automatically determines a closed outline which fully contains the signal region of the relevant image data record and, on the basis of the closed outline of the relevant image data record, determines an analysis region such that a further analysis of the relevant image data record can be restricted to its analysis region.

The present invention relates to a method and to a device for visualizing objects, in particular non-rigid objects. The method and the device are particularly suitable to visualizing three-dimensional objects in the case of medical interventions.The method comprises: providing a three-dimensional image data record of the object, successively taking a series of two-dimensional image data records of the object, individually registering each individual two-dimensional image data record with the three-dimensional image data record, functionally evaluating functional parameters from the successively taken two-dimensional images, extracting two-dimensional projections from the three-dimensional image data record, and superimposing the recorded two-dimensional images with the extracted two-dimensional projections. The 2D or 3D ultrasound images are then overlaid with the 3D image data record or a target region segmented therefrom or displayed next to one another in the same perspective. The method allows a puncture or biopsy to be monitored with a low level of radiation.

Registration of preoperatively acquired MRI images of soft parts to intraoperatively acquired X-ray images of soft parts is not possible. The invention shows a way of nevertheless using such preoperatively acquired images for superimposition with 2D projections of the soft parts, taking an indirect route via 3D/3D registration of images of the spinal column. For this purpose, 3D image data sets of the spinal column must be obtained separately on the one hand using MRI and on the other using the X-ray imaging system so that the 3D/3D registration produces a mapping rule which then also applies to the preoperatively acquired images of the soft part if the soft part images and the spinal images are acquired without intervening change in the patient position in the MRI scanner.

In a method for mathematical compensation of a periodic movement of an organ in a first image-generation method used to image said organ, two time series of three-dimensional image data are acquired using gating, one by the first image-generation method and one by the second image-generation method, the image data that have been acquired by the second image-generation method being used to calculate motion fields which are applied for the compensation of the data from the time series which was acquired by the first image-generation method. The compensation encompasses the mathematical inclusion of motion fields and the mapping of the image data to a reference time. All the image data mapped back to the reference time are added together.

The present invention relates to a method for imaging using an image-generating, endoluminal instrument (1) by means of which a sequence of 2D image data of a hollow channel (2), in particular a vessel, of an object under investigation is recorded, wherein the images are recorded in a known temporal relation to a periodic movement of the object under investigation and spatial coordinates of the image are captured by means of a position sensor during each recording of an image (5) and stored as position data (9, 10) together with the 2D image data of the image (5). The method is characterized in that first position data (10) which does not lie in a predefinable movement phase of the object under investigation is corrected, before or after being stored, by interpolation between second position data (9) which does lie in the specified movement phase and/or by subtraction or addition of predetermined values. By means of the method a movement correction of the data can be performed without the need to reduce the volume of recorded image material.
