Abstract:
A display device includes an image display panel whose display is controlled by an image signal, a backlight which includes light sources and lights the image display panel from behind, and a display control section which calculates, based on the image signal, the required luminance value of the backlight for each divided area of the image display panel, calculates a tentative lighting level of each light source based on luminance distribution information for the backlight stored previously and the required luminance values, sets the lighting level of a first light source whose tentative lighting level exceeds an upper limit to the upper limit, determines the lighting level of a second light source whose tentative lighting level does not exceed the upper limit, based on the lighting level of the first light source, luminance distribution information, and required luminance value, and controls the backlight by the lighting levels.
Abstract:
According to an aspect, a display device includes an image display panel; a planar light source including a light guide plate, a first sidelight light source, and a second sidelight light source; and a control unit. The control unit sets first luminance determination blocks in a first display surface of the image display panel and identifies a first luminance determination block to be a target of luminance correction by referring to luminance information on the light sources. The control unit sets second luminance determination blocks in a second display surface of the image display panel and identifies a second luminance determination block to be a target of luminance correction by referring to the luminance information on the light sources. The control unit controls light source lighting amounts of the respective light sources to satisfy luminance of the identified first luminance determination block and the identified second luminance determination block.
Abstract:
According to an aspect, a display device includes an image display panel; a planar light source including a light guide plate and an edge-lit light source that has light sources; and a controller. The controller sets luminance determination blocks by virtually dividing the image display panel in a light-source-arrangement-direction, identifies a luminance determination block with a highest luminance in the incidence direction, among luminance determination blocks at a same position in the light-source-arrangement-direction, identifies a luminance determination block the luminance of which is to be corrected by referring to luminance information of the light sources, and controls a light quantity of each of the light sources in such a manner that luminance of the identified luminance determination block is achieved.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment, an illumination device includes a light source, clad, and a plurality of cores. The clad includes a first edge at a light source side, a second edge opposite to the first edge, and a plurality of grooves formed by a plurality of partitions extending in parallel to each other from the first edge to the second edge. The cores are accommodated in the grooves, and each core includes an incident surface on which light from the light source is incident and an exit surface exposed from the groove to emit the light incident on the incident surface.
Abstract:
According to an aspect, a display device includes a display unit including a plurality of pixels, a light source device that emits light that illuminates the display unit, and a controller that controls operation of the light source device. The controller does not lower luminance of the light for a second predetermined time or longer after the controller has raised the luminance of the light by a predetermined amount of luminance change or more within a first predetermined time.
Abstract:
According to an aspect, a display device includes a display panel comprising a plurality of pixels, a light guide plate, a light source configured to emit light from a lateral side of the light guide plate, a dimming panel, and a controller. The dimming panel comprises a plurality of dimming areas arranged in an emission direction of the light from the light source. The dimming areas are capable of individually changing transmittance of the light according to intensities of light required to display an image using the display panel. When adjacent two of the dimming areas differ in light transmittance from each other, the controller increases output gradation values of target pixels, the target pixels being located in a predetermined area extending from a boundary between the two dimming areas in one of the two dimming areas that has lower light transmittance.
